Pantone picks new color of the year

It is called marsala - a very brown red color. Looked to me like what you would get if you watered down a garnet color. Not brown , not red and rather light in tone. I did not find it at all attractive - but it is pretty neutral.

It doesn't sound like anything I would like. I'm not a fan of any reds at all - in décor or fashion.

I'd have to see it though...

It looks like a Fall color. It's pretty, but I really don't care for it. It's a little too muted.

That color would look horrible on my olive complexion. I stay away from muted shades. Jewel tones are much more complimentary on me.

Perhaps in decorating, but in clothing, not so much.

Would I wear this color - doubtful. But it would be a good neutral for decorating. Pantone shows a car painted this color and it is very pretty.

It would be a great color for a handbag.

I do better in jewel tones for clothing and this is a bit too muted for me.

All I know is that there will be many versions of the color by the time we see items we want to buy. For me, I'll hope to see clothing items that are earthier than they are grayish. That's what I can wear - not much gray near my face.

I like it. It almost looks like a very deep mauve....it seems to be warm with a touch of pink in it. I know I have worn that color over the years and it's nice that a lot of it will be available in retail.

Can someone please explain to me who/what Pantone is (too lazy to google it) and why they/it is so influential deciding and announcing what the ""new color of the year"" is?

I mean really? Do I really need someone to tell me what color I should wear?

So dumb! Another marketing device.

Well, thank goodness! I would not know what to wear EVER if not for Pantone. Now I can get on with mylife. I was literally, like, waiting around, eating my lowfat smoothies, just waiting for this information. I mean, like, I was in a stupor! I could not function without knowing what color outfit I had to buy next. Now, I can buy a whole new wardrobe and redecorate my entire condo. So cool!

I think deep mauve describes it very well.

Not a color I would wear. Reminds me of a Dorothy Zbornak outfit color.

Have no idea what Pantone is either.

Pantone colors don't really matter to me as I'm going to wear what looks best on me, regardless...But I had a minute and thought I'd google to get a better look at this color of the year...I kinda like it. Found this link that has all the colors and the reasons behind why they were chosen the colors for Spring 2015. Marsala, along with classic blue and a gray shade are the "anchoring" colors. I really like the palette as a whole. In case anyone else is interested:

I'm olive-skinned and I think this is a great color for me. I look terrible in bright jewel colors.

I don't think it looks anything like deep mauve but we all have different color descriptors.

If you've ever cooked with marsala wine, that's the color. A brownish red. I think it might be pretty in home decor but I'm not sure I'd wear the color.

It will be interesting to see the shopping channels trotting out colors that aren't even really close and trying to sell us on the fact that they it's the Pantone color of the year so we should buy it.
