We can expect it and be ready&lt;BR /&gt; for it when it comes. None of us are entirely safe. We can try to&lt;BR /&gt; keep our defenses up by daily thought and prayer. That is why we&lt;BR /&gt; spend time in prayer each day. We can become able to recognize&lt;BR /&gt; temptation when it comes. The first step toward conquering temptation&lt;BR /&gt; always is to see it clearly as temptation and not to harbor it in our&lt;BR /&gt; minds. We can dissociate ourselves from it, put it out of our mind as&lt;BR /&gt; soon as it appears. We need not think of excuses for yielding to it.&lt;BR /&gt; We can turn at once to God for help.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; P R A Y E R F O R T H E D A Y&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; I pray that I may be prepared for whatever temptation may come to me.&lt;BR /&gt; I pray that I may see it clearly and conquer it with the help of God.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Hello my friends! My classmate friend, Angie, is here now&lt;BR /&gt; for the weekend - so nice to have her over again and what a nice blessing!&lt;BR /&gt; Beautiful day today to share with her too, out in the patio - ate our supper&lt;BR /&gt; there with a glass of wine. It's so nice to keep in touch and share our&lt;BR /&gt; lives. Proverbs 23:7 NKJV&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; When a Trickle Becomes a Stream&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; I’d been pondering a situation for awhile. It rolled round and round&lt;BR /&gt; in my head. The more I thought about it, and all its possibilities and&lt;BR /&gt; ramifications, the worse it seemed to get. A molehill was becoming a&lt;BR /&gt; mountain, and all in my mind.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; A trickle can do that. If it continues it may turn into a stream, and&lt;BR /&gt; then a brook, then maybe a river. Before you know it, you’re dealing&lt;BR /&gt; with an ocean of unchecked thoughts.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Has this ever happened to you? I’d like to say I got it all in hand&lt;BR /&gt; and stopped those thoughts dead in their tracks, but it took awhile&lt;BR /&gt; for me to recognize what was going on and then turn in another&lt;BR /&gt; direction.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; The reality is fear, in this form, has a sneaky way of getting to us.&lt;BR /&gt; A classic by James Allen, As a Man Thinketh, has many great quotes; a&lt;BR /&gt; few are:&lt;BR /&gt; A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete&lt;BR /&gt; sum of all his thoughts.&lt;BR /&gt; Every action and feeling is preceded by a thought.&lt;BR /&gt; Right thinking begins with the words we say to ourselves.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; These are wise and true sayings. Perhaps we’ve been “fishing” in the&lt;BR /&gt; wrong places, where there are no “fish.” Or perhaps we’ve been so caught up&lt;BR /&gt; with our own interests and perceptions of things — OUR OWN AGENDA — that we&lt;BR /&gt; haven’t seen what’s right in front of us. Perhaps we need a new perspective.&lt;BR /&gt; Perhaps we need to look at things through God’s eyes, for God sees to the&lt;BR /&gt; heart of things.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Let God show you what he sees. It’s the ultimate in truth. Then relax in&lt;BR /&gt; him. Let him guide your hand. I know of Your miraculous deeds for the sick. How&lt;BR /&gt; many diseases You cured during Your blessed life on earth, and how many&lt;BR /&gt; venerators of Your Miraculous image ascribe to You their recovery and&lt;BR /&gt; deliverance from most painful and hopeless maladies. I know, indeed, that a&lt;BR /&gt; sinner like me has merited his sufferings and has no right to ask for&lt;BR /&gt; favors. But in view of the innumerable graces and the miraculous cures&lt;BR /&gt; granted even to the greatest sinners through the veneration of Your holy&lt;BR /&gt; infancy, particularly in the miraculous statue of Prague or in&lt;BR /&gt; representations of it, I exclaim with the greatest assurance: O most loving&lt;BR /&gt; Infant Jesus, full of pity, You can cure me if You will! Proverbs 23:7 NKJV&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; When a Trickle Becomes a Stream&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; I’d been pondering a situation for awhile. It rolled round and round&lt;BR /&gt; in my head. The more I thought about it, and all its possibilities and&lt;BR /&gt; ramifications, the worse it seemed to get. A molehill was becoming a&lt;BR /&gt; mountain, and all in my mind.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; A trickle can do that. If it continues it may turn into a stream, and&lt;BR /&gt; then a brook, then maybe a river. Before you know it, you’re dealing&lt;BR /&gt; with an ocean of unchecked thoughts.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Has this ever happened to you? I’d like to say I got it all in hand&lt;BR /&gt; and stopped those thoughts dead in their tracks, but it took awhile&lt;BR /&gt; for me to recognize what was going on and then turn in another&lt;BR /&gt; direction.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; The reality is fear, in this form, has a sneaky way of getting to us.&lt;BR /&gt; A classic by James Allen, As a Man Thinketh, has many great quotes; a&lt;BR /&gt; few are:&lt;BR /&gt; A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete&lt;BR /&gt; sum of all his thoughts.&lt;BR /&gt; Every action and feeling is preceded by a thought.&lt;BR /&gt; Right thinking begins with the words we say to ourselves.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; These are wise and true sayings. This, too, is wise and true: in a&lt;BR /&gt; wrap-up to a cyclical letter to the church at Philippi, St Paul says,&lt;BR /&gt; “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble,&lt;BR /&gt; whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is&lt;BR /&gt; admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such&lt;BR /&gt; things.” (Phil4:8)&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; If I follow this suggestion, I can expect that if a trickle even gets&lt;BR /&gt; close to becoming a stream, it will be checked and stopped in its&lt;BR /&gt; path.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to be aware when fear is creeping into my&lt;BR /&gt; thoughts, so that I may turn my mind toward what you suggest is best.&lt;BR /&gt; Thank you, in Jesus’ name.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Homily of the Day&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Let Him Tell You Where the Truth Is&lt;BR /&gt; by Monsignor Dennis Clark, Ph.D.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Col 1:9-14 / Lk 5:1-11&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Is there any one of us who couldn’t sympathize with those poor apostles, out&lt;BR /&gt; all night in the boat, doing their best, and catching nothing, not even a&lt;BR /&gt; minnow?!&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; We know the experience well: we think an issue through, we do our homework,&lt;BR /&gt; we plan carefully and act decisively, and still … nothing. He said, “Try again, but this time go out to the deep waters.”&lt;BR /&gt; It seemed a stupid idea, but because they sensed that Jesus should be&lt;BR /&gt; trusted, they did what he asked. And the catch they made was the biggest&lt;BR /&gt; they’d ever seen.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Perhaps there’s a clue there for us. Perhaps we’ve been “fishing” in the&lt;BR /&gt; wrong places, where there are no “fish.” Or perhaps we’ve been so caught up&lt;BR /&gt; with our own interests and perceptions of things — OUR OWN AGENDA — that we&lt;BR /&gt; haven’t seen what’s right in front of us. Perhaps we need a new perspective.&lt;BR /&gt; Perhaps we need to look at things through God’s eyes, for God sees to the&lt;BR /&gt; heart of things.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Let God show you what he sees. It’s the ultimate in truth. Then relax in&lt;BR /&gt; him. Let him guide your hand. He will speak to you in his own silent way.&lt;BR /&gt; And you will hear him, if you have learned how to listen.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Good night everyone - Have a good weekend!
