Flip Phones are Making a Comeback

I never got rid of mine, LOL, but it's nice to know that I'm trendy without even trying. Vogue editor Anna Wintour and Rihanna have been spotted recently with flip phones, so I guess that means that those of us who never got rid of ours can safely come out of the closet now.

There wasn't a reason for this current trend in the articles I read, but one did mention that flip phones literally repel muggers, so I guess that's a good thing.

My brother teaches middle school. One day, a student needed to borrow his phone to call his parents. The kid couldn't operate it! He said to my brother, "what is that?"

I don't own a cellphone, so I'm wondering why a flip-phone would "repel muggers"?

I think because smart phones are a hot item with muggers these days, and flip phones are worthless to them and are thought of as 'old technology'. They can get something like $20.00 for each smart phone which buys them a lot of drugs if they steal a few.

In a city near me, there are frequent warnings by law enforcement reminding people not to walk down a city street engrossed in their smart phones. Muggers target these people and can steal them in a flash. That would never happen with a flip phone.

My flip phone is so old, I had to search the web to find someone who carried the type of battery it requires. Had to do this twice.

When Sprint stopped supporting the Blackberry network, I had to get another phone. I chose a simple flip phone with only call and text capabilities. I absolutely refuse to join the smart phone craze.

My old, but ever so simple to navigate, Samsung finally gave out after years of good service. I went to T-Mobile for a replacement and was informed it was a dinosaur BUT they had something comparable - a flip phone! Yikes! So I gave in a got it. Must say it is quite attractive.

Both DH and I have tracphone service and we use old flip phones from Wallworld that we paid all of $20 each. We only have them for emergencies and for our purposes, they fit the bill. You know the saying, "what goes around, comes around." lol

I have one also but don't use it. I just got a (pre-paid) Samsung Galaxy last Christmas because my children were laughing that I had a stone age phone. Well.... I don't use that either!..lol. Its in my purse, and I add minutes when I have to. I have TONS of triple minutes that keep carrying over and over..lol.

I have an LG flip phone that is about 11 years old, works great. I buy a new battery every now and then off EBAY for five or six bucks.

Disabled text, prepaid plan through Verizon so I buy minutes - five dollars worth every sixty days - the new minimum. Used to be fifteen dollars worth every sixty days, which I never used. The minutes accumulate so I have a lot stored.

My husband has a cell phone plan with unlimited minutes any time of the day or night so there is no reason for both of us to have the same thing. We also have a landline, required for enhanced 911 service in our area. And it has proven to be a lifesaver.

I have my phone for emergencies or for meeting up with someone when we are out shopping together or something, that's it. I actually can go grocery shopping without having to call home and seek advice on what to buy

Same here, my husband has a brand new "smart" phone, never activated. He loves his dinosaur Nokia !

my mother has one of those little annoying flip phones. we keep trying to get her to upgrade it to a smartphone but she will not budge. she likes that it fits into her pockets but i think she doesn't want to deal with a smart phone and thinks it will be too complicated. it is frustrating needing to text her while she is out and she has to tap tap tap back a message. then we have to wait for her to get home to get the details!

i love my smartphone and all that it can do!
