I've bought shoes for KIDS... never my friends. Kind off odd unless you know them REALLY well and they've pointed out exactly what they want.

I can live with someone thinking I am weird.

The person I bought the Uggs for didn't think it was weird, that is what counts to me.

I can think of times I (or others) might. If you know them well, know their size, have gone shoe shopping with them and know exactly what they'd like/want (maybe because they've told you they're dying for a pair of X's in a certain style) i.e.you see a pair of X or Y shoes you know they've been looking for, then I probably would - not as a gift necessarily -might do as gift, might just say "here you are, look what I found. You owe me X." But other than that, mo. Just slippers.

I don't shop for friends just family.

But If I did, I would not buy shoes.

On the other hand, I have bought slippers for family members.

And my daughter bought me UGGS the other year for my birthday.

I know a few friends well enough, that I know their shoe sizes, and might buy them slippers, Uggs, or other easy-fitting types of footwear. But as far as other types of shoes go....no! I need to try on numerous pairs just for myself, in order to find a pair that feels comfortable on my feet.

I bought Uggs for my DIL...before I knew her as well as I do now. They were a big hit. I'll bet your friend was happy with her gift.

I would not buy shoes for a friend, I have bought shoes or boots for my daughter if she comments that she likes a style I am wearing.

same for me.

I don't buy them as a gift, but if I know they have been wanting a certain pair and I see them on sale, I pick them up. It's reciprocal.
