Mike Nichols producer, director of movies etc., husband of Diane Sawyer died suddenly at age 83.

Mike Nichols and Elaine May were one of the funniest comedy teams ever. I was lucky enough to see them live when they reunited for a benefit concert for George McGovern in 1972. They both went on to great success in writing and directing.

A wonderfully talented man, and one of my "fantasy" directors. I really envy everyone who had the opportunity to work with him.

i am watching THE VIEW right now.....whoopi was crying and could barely get through the segment that they did. he was her mentor and she interviewed him last year for a segment. he gave her her big break in the industry.

He directed one of my all-time favorite movies, The Graduate. He was very talented.

I was very sad and surprised to read this when I first got online this morning. I've always liked both of them.

I read the piece that was on att/yahoo and, before that, I didn't even know that he had won all the main awards - Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and quite a few Tonys. Not too many people can make that claim. He was a major talent.

This makes me incredibly sad.

He lived a long and seemingly wonderful life, so I am not sad for him--but those who loved him, and I certainly admired him.

Diane and Mike were a couple that gave me inspiration, great apart AND great together.

Diane has some major grieving to do.... I don't remember why she quit doing the evening news? I think she is one special lady and he was so talented. I read an article about him this morning....

This is just so sad... Diane losing both her mother and her husband, so close together.

Mike Nichols was a brilliant guy.

He was such a brilliant man.

It's so sad to lose someone so suddenly like that, especially since she just lost her mother.

They always looked incredibly happy together.

I didn't even know about this until I saw The View. He wasn't very old was he? Cardiac arrest with no chance of saving him.

Does anyone else here remember the bit from him and Elaine May, "My Son The Nurse" ?

That was the first time I heard them and they were so funny. I've never found it on youtube or anywhere else.
