Does anyone have a friend or relative collecting SSDI due to dementia? Are claims due to dementia rejected automatically like many/most claims for other causes of disability?

My 59 year old BIL has recently been diagnosed with a form of dementia, not Alzheimers, which explains his behavour changes over the past 4 or so years). I hope his claim doesn't become one of the many that takes an appeal and 2 + years to get an answer.
