Update on My Father and Me

I'm proud of myself today. As you know, I have no wheels right now, so if I want to go anywhere, I either have to walk, or call for a taxi.

The hospital is 1 mile away. I decided not to call a taxi for a trip that was only going to be 1 mile, so I decided to hoof it. I knew that I could do it.

The only time that I stopped on my walk, was for the lights. Other than that, it took me approx. 23 minutes to walk that one mile.

Yes, I was huffing and puffing, but I did it.

For someone who is out of shape and HATES to exercise (hiss!), I think doing a mile in 23 minutes, aint too shabby.

So, I walked one mile up, and one mile back for a total of 2 miles today.

Whew!

Dad is getting better. I think that they might keep him until Sunday. He's still a little wobbly when he stands.

He tried to get up by himself to go use the restroom, but I barked at him to stay in bed until a nurse got there to help him.

I also made sure that he ate all of his lunch, because I know that the nurses monitor his ins and outs. The monitor how much he eats and drinks, and how much he eliminates.

I also know that the more that you eat, even when you are not hungry, the stronger you'll get, and the better that you'll feel. So, I told him to eat up, even if he doesn't feel hungry, and he did. He ate everything that they brought him.

So, that's the news for today.

it is 2 miles more than you had under your belt yesterday. You can do it.

remember the days when we had to walk to school, when there was no bus service available to school kids (at least in my town there wasn't any service for several years) till the town got to big, that brought in a bus service for school kids.

I try to walk at least 1 mile daily, granted if weather is bad, I will have to stay in, but if weather is nice, I get out and hoof it.

Good for him for listening to you, and eating his lunch. It isn't an easy thing to do when you have no appetite. I'm glad he is continuing to improve. And you did well. A 23 minute mile is good, especially when you aren't use to doing it.

They had my dad sitting in a chair today, and later on, they are going to take him for a walk. Not one mile, though!

People can do amazing things out of love. Even walk miles (when they aren't used to it)!

I just got off the phone with the hospital, and Sunday is the target release date.

Here is the interesting part.

After I got off the phone with the hospital, I called my cousin who lives in Sacramento, about 2 hours away. No sooner had I hung up from leaving her a voice-mail message, she called me! I mean like, literally less than 10 seconds after I had hung up, she called.

So, the plan is, once dad and I leave here, we'll go to Sacramento, where we will overnight, that way, he can get his rest. Then the next day, we'll take Amtrak home.

So, by Monday, we'll be back home.

That's the plan anyway.

you really are a wonderful daughter and I bet your Dad thinks so also. Nothing better then the love between a daughter and her Dad.

So you are taking your dad on a trip the minute he gets out of the hospital?

Did you check with his drs to see if he is up to this?
