Trash Disposal Service Increases - You Don't Know Unless You Ask.

I am fortunate to have my choice of three trash disposal services. I received my bill today with an increase of 9.00 every three months for senior citizens which is still a good price but I have very little trash and I liked my current price. lol

I called the other two companies and they gave me a discount on one and the other was not bad, both less than I am paying now. I thought I would switch but decided to call mine and ask anyway. Come to find out if I sign a contract I can get my service reduced 12.00 which is less than I am paying now with the increase. So I will sign a contract. For disabled people like myself they will pick it up at your door if you need it done. Luckily I can still drag out the heavy container by myself but good to know.

For some odd reason I like my trash picked up on a day that not many people have. If you go with the major service like most do they are closed a lot more holidays and trash day always falls on a Saturday. I like my Tuesday.

The same thing happened with my cable company. I called and got it reduced 35.00 a month if I signed a contract. It never hurts to ask. That cable bill was getting up there.

How long is the contract for? Will the rates go up once the contract expire? Can you get this deal only once? Meaning, once the contract expires, you won't be able to renew at that price.

I'm just curious.

It's nice to have a choice of provider. We only have one option here, but it's weird: the top half of our street has one provider, the bottom half has another, and neither end can choose, you get what your end gets.

I remember years ago, if your collection day fell on a holiday, they just skipped that week and you were out of luck. It really stank (literally!) to be stuck with Mondays. But now they just collect one day late on a holiday week.

Op[ - I am totally confused - first you said it was $9 quarter then they would reduce it by $12 - that means they would be paying YOU.

I am glad to say that out trash disposal in Sarasota County is all included in our very reasonable yearly property tax as is professional (not volunteer) fire and EMT and police.When we lived in Pittsburgh we had to pay for trash removal , and we had to pay a yearly fee for police, fire , and EMT services - and the fire and EMT were volunteer.We used to even have to pay a tax to cover the light bulbs in the street lights.

The contract is for two years. They are a small company so I figured they would want me to continue. After the two years, I think they will keep the same rate if they want my business, if not I will switch. They don't raise rates every year , they don't close very often and they take recycle and lawn bags. Plus I don't have to use the bin like the other two companies.

I paid 66.00 every three months and the rate went up to 75.00 every three months. Now my new rate will be 63.00 every three months so I will save 12.00 by signing the contract. 48.00 bucks a year. I'll take it.

One company wanted 65.00 for a years contract normally much more if not a senior and the other was 70.00.

If not a senior the rates are up in the mid 80s.
