topic Question about reception only invitation in Community Chat

The daughter of a long time friend is getting married. For many reasons they are having a very small marriage ceremony with only a few family attending and then a reception to which everyone (who would have been at a larger event if that had been their choice) else is invited. The couple have requested (on the invitations) gift certificates from a certain store and/or other home design businesses. Am I being petty feeling that after knowing this young woman for her whole life and doing a lot of things for her I am only seen as a gift possibility? I am going to send the couple a check made out to them (which has been my plan for the start) and wish them the best of everything but am not going to the reception. Trust me, I will not be missed. I guess I just feel that an invitation to provide a gift makes me feel very insulted. I know times have changed and there is no dyed in the wool rules and I need to get over this feeling of being seen as a gift and not important enough to see the marriage.
