about leftover Halloween candy

Can I freeze it in Zip lock freezer bags for next year? I usually just throw it out. I have no one to give it to, and would not donate it to anyone as really hate the thought of people eating it anyway... just junk food and bad for you. I only do it for the kids at Halloween because I know kids love Halloween.

I usually have plenty of leftovers. I am not cheap or anything, just would rather not waste it by tossing it out. If freezing is an option I will do it. It is mostly tootsie rolls, tootsie pops and bubble gum.

You do it for kids because they like Halloween but won't give the left overs to others because it's junk food? Not following the thinking here.

Anyway, freezing candy for next year? I doubt it's going to freeze well, especially the bubble gum. Then you defrost it next year and pass it out??

Why not just skip candy/gum altogether and hand out smaller items you can pick up at any dollar store?

I wouldn't freeze tootsie rolls or bubble gum or any leftover candy.

Just let them grab what they want and then call it a night when you run out.

You could always pass out healthier treats or something you don't mind having leftovers of...

Why not just give what's left to the last of the trick or treaters or leave it in a bowl on the front porch after you close up for the night?

I can't imagine freezing any of the items you mentioned. I'm with others, just give out more to those who show up. When it's gone, it's gone.

I pass out a variety of treats - candy, pretzels, goldfish, granola bars. There's something for everyone.

Is there a family with kids living near that you are acquainted with? Maybe you could just drop it off to them.

The kids would probably thrilled to get some extra treats.

I would hate to throw it out also, but I don't think those would freeze well TBH.

There's a lady in Denver who offers kids a choice when they come to her door: a book or candy. She said that last year, every one chose a book.

If it looks like you're going to have extra, just give the kids more pieces as the night goes on. That's what we have done.

I give out fun size candy bars so I would freeze them but not to give out next year. I would freeze them so that they weren't sitting around for me to keep picking at. This way I would take 1 out of the freezer as a snack once in awhile.

We had TOT last night and it was a bust. I have a lot of candy left. I brought it in to work.

I have to say I don't follow the logic either of not giving it away after the fact because it's junk but giving out on Halloween.

Maybe in about a month (around Thanksgiving time) you could bring it to a local hospital's Pediatric Unit.
