Arias retrial update

Tuesday the first phase of the trial was done (the summary of the criminal trial)

Today was to be the first day of the mitigation phase. This is Nurmi's part.

However, it started with Tanisha and Stephen giving victim impact statements, which were quite moving. Makes my tummy hurt, actually.

Now starts the mitigation, but we have been stuck for an hour with sidebars, attempts to kick the media and still camera operator out of the courtroom--which led to more meetings in chambers. Still have no idea what is really going on...lots of speculation.

An interesting tweet:

I cannot verify if this is true, but it rings true to me.

All signs point to Jodi being the next witness, but we still don't know if the media is getting kicked out or not....media lawyers are with judge.

Jodi added a black blazer to her outfit during lunch-- that is what indicates to me that she is going to be taking the stand.

The judge just stated that she is closing the courtroom because the next witness will not testify unless in a closed court.

I wonder if the secret witness is one of the mental health people. I can't imagine Jodi not wanting the spotlight, but I doubt any of those professionals from the first trial will want to be seen on the stand. ?? Interesting ......

I don't know if it matters (the ruling) for them-- here is why...

What advantage would it give them? Juan Martinez will still be doing cross.

Another thought...what do you think the jury thinks about this witness clearing out the room? That could make them think strange things are going on....minds wonder...and when minds wonder, conclusions can be made that the defense (or the state) cannot control. I know I would be thinking about it if I were on a jury.

televised is not the issue. They can request to not be seen on camera (voice only) but this is much different today-- the press has been barred (as is the public) from the courtroom altogether.

I heard them say on HLN that the jury seemed very affected by the victim impact statements......the brother has divorced because of the murder and drawn out trial?

The murder, long wait for the trial, and the retrial have caused a lot of pain, anger, depression for many members of the family, I believe.

I just hope they picked a better this time. Hopefully there are no JA fans on the jury masquerading like they are pro-death penalty, when in reality they are not. I read where the jury foreman wanted to meet her, and talked with the defense about making their side more believable. Anything that comes out of her mouth are lies, except her name. I don't believe one word she says. I wonder if it was that Laviolet person that refused to testify on her behalf unless if it was a closed courtroom?
