Walmart and "fat girl costumes"

Walmart has section online, before taking it down due to social media outcry, for plus size women Holloween costumes as "fat girl costumes". I don't shop at Walmart for many reasons and reading about a big corporation labeling a whole segment of society as "Fat Girls" really takes the cake. Not overweight but irritated about this. Just venting.

I understand and definitely empathize.

But it's really no surprise to me, with the ever-increasing superficiality and shallowness of today's society. Especially when it comes to women and girls.

When I first read the title of your post i thought Walmart had costumes so kids could look like ""fat girls"". LOL.

I'm plus size and do think labeling me as a ""fat girl"" would be offensive if done by a retailer who wanted my business.

I think that if Walmart just advertised as just Plus Size, there would not have been a problem. Many stores have plus size sections with regular clothes. Fat Girl is very degrading.

It was not the packages that were labeled that way; it was a section on their web site. I hardly think Walmart thought it was a good idea to use that term. Some employee probably thought he was being funny, and may not have even intended for the words to remain. And he probably got fired today.

It was at Target. An employee used the description of "manatee" as the color for a plus size dress.

WalMart did apologize and say it's unacceptable and should have never been on the site.

I'm guessing an employee is getting fired for this little stunt.

Target used Manatee Gray as a color in many products, including petite size clothing.

No employee used "manatee" to describe the plus size clothing. The offense was taken when a plus size customer saw the label on a dress.

As far as Wal-Mart and this situation, "fat girls" was used on their website deliberately.

Two different situations.

I don't think you understand exactly what happened here based on this comment and the one you posted in fashion.

I think that you are under the misunderstanding that WM was selling a "fat girl" costume meaning someone can dress up as a fat girl.

That isn't what happened.
