Spanish Nurse Infected With Ebola Has Recovered

Good news!

"MADRID (AP) — An initial test shows that a nursing assistant who became infected with Ebola in Spain is now clear of all traces of the virus nearly two weeks after she was hospitalized, authorities said Sunday.

Teresa Romero, 44, is the first person known to have contracted the disease outside West Africa in the current outbreak when she tested positive for the virus Oct. 6. She has been in quarantine at Carlos III hospital in Madrid since then.

A statement Sunday said a blood test revealed that Romero's immune system had eliminated the virus from her body. The statement came from the Spanish government committee in charge of the nation's Ebola crisis."

They'll be doing a follow-up test to make sure.

I'm glad to read this! It's heartening to see that quite a few people who get early and aggressive treatment seem to recover from ebola.

I'm glad for her too, but feel so bad about that beautiful dog. Her Dh is upset too..they could have quarantined the dog like Bentley, the nurse in Texas' dog!

I know. That was so sad and most likely completely unnecessary.

We're learning, though, as time progresses. It's tremendously encouraging that none of Thomas Eric Duncan's family and friends have fallen ill.

Early supportive care is one of the keys in helping Ebola victims survive. Unfortunately, in most of the countries where Ebola strikes, there is no such care available. By this I mean rehydration and transfusions.

You're right. I'd also think some people don't go in right away, or they live far enough from the clinics that they're worse by the time they get there.
