I've often wondered --- about TSV's and the models

When I first started watching QVC and I was interested in a TSV, I would see one or two of the same models at midnight and throughout the following day. They seemed to have a connection with the vendor. I thought probably the vendor would give them the TSV as a gift, especially in the case of jewelry or makeup, when they wore the same thing over and over again.

Just curious. What do you think? Or do you know? I would do that to thank them if I were a vendor!

Have you ever been to a QVC outlet? Lots of jewelry items are marked 'On air item'. I always took that to mean it was what the model was wearing.

It surprises me to hear quite often the vendor tell the model "You look good in that, you should get one for yourself in that color".

I doubt that models get free jewelry or clothes as a standard. Ido believe that hosts get a lot of samples of beauty products so they can say when selling the that they have tried this or that.. And possibly discounts to try beds and bigger items.

QVC employees get a discount. I think it is around 20%-30%. The cable company where I worked had a QVC affiliate discount of 20% between Oct.-Nov. every year.

I think it is a definite no-no to give items away to hosts/models/buyers/anyone on staff. It could be construed as a bribe.

Most big businesses have ethics standards re: giving or receiving gifts now...they are limited to a certain (low) amount. They are subject to taxes too.

I live near QVC and have known numerous people that work there. The last I knew, employees were given a 30% discount, but some brands were exempt.

The models are not QVC employees.

Vendors often give away products.

I would imagine they get to keep the makeup items since it is illegal to sell used makeup.

A friend of mine worked there for a while and said that they played HSN nonstop on large screen TVs. This was about 15 years ago, maybe HSN isn't such a competitor any more.

Even "giving" employees non - monetary items can be deemed wages by the IRS under most circumstances. I would doubt that a corporation as large as the Q doesn't know the state and federal laws. So allowing a discount that is reasonable would work, giving would be taxable IMO.
