She was released from the hospital Wednesday night. She was released late because she was getting an Iron Infusion and even at that she got only half of the amount usually Infused during this procedure. She is going in on Thursday to get her staples taken out, and get the other 250ml of her Iron Infusion. So that should take up most of the day. These usually take from 4-7 hours depending on how long it takes them to get things started.

She is being very careful what she eats and also how much she eats. Since this is her 2nd time around with this obstruction, needless to say she if really conscious of making sure everything is eaten in very small bites and also followed with drinking water or milk.

The Gastro doctors say there is no way to prevent this from happening. It is more a genetic thing than something that can be prevented by what one eats, even a soft food program. The 1st time she had only 1 obstruction and this time her intestines had 2 knots in them. Much more to deal with and also much more painful for her until she was on the "good stuff". Morphine didn't even work for her. They went to Dilaudid before it helped with her pain before going into surgery.

It still is hard for her to get into a sitting position and also getting in and out of bed. She carries a protective pillow with her at all times. With our house full of felines it is not safe for her to not have her huge incision protected, and a pillow is what works best. I have used this method myself many times with the latest being my bout with Shingles, where my worst internal pain was my abdomen and upper chest. I had to keep a pillow on me for a couple months and on occasion when I forgot? YIKES, it hurt!

Thanks again to all of my friends here for your concern/thoughts and prayers for my wife/out feline family(and canine), and myself.

I can honestly say that as a woman who had four births in four and a half years, that I have never felt such horrible pain in my life as that obstruction. The nurses were not allowed to do anything, no laxatives helped, and for some reason they would not give me an enema.

Finally, after three days of what I would literally call "torture," a fine young doctor came into my room and helped me. I called him an "angel" (I have talked about this in Health and Wellness before).

I sincerely hope that your dear wife never has to go through this again, as hers was obviously far worse than my experience which, frankly, I can't imagine. I'm glad to hear that she is recovering. Best wishes to you both.
