If you buy a lot of things from Amazon, it's free 2 day shipping. You also get free instant streaming on a lot of TV and movies. It depends on what you like to watch and your buying habits. They usually have a 30 day free trial which would be the best way to find out if it's worth it to you. Amazon's customer service is the best.

Amazon's customer service is the best.

You also get free unlimited music streaming (new), and a free e-book to read once a month (with no due date) on their superb Kindle e-reader.

They also have a vast Kindle lending library, and you can share your membership with family members at no additional price.

I've been an extremely satisfied Amazon customer for 9 years, and a Prime member for the last 4. It's saved and enriched my and my cats' lives - especially our health and safety - and that to me is priceless.

When you live without your own vehicle and no access to transportation on a regular basis, it's a true blessing. I'm immeasurably grateful to Amazon for providing this service.

The once-yearly charge equals only $8/month, much more than people use in gas and wear n' tear on their vehicles, and all of the time wasted schlepping around.

And they very often have the lowest prices on a practically-limitless inventory of anything and everything.

Plus, if you need something overnight, it's just $3.99 extra.

The free 30-day trail is exactly that, and a total no-brainer to try out and totally enjoy.

BTW, several of the Amazon original TV series - like the poignant, funny, ground-breaking "Transparent" - are fantastic. 8)

Oh, anyway, as to if Prime is worth it - only you can answer that. It's worth it to me so I have no problem allowing it to renew every year. Mine doesn't renew until next January, so I'm still on the old price. I recently was given an extra month for some situation I had, which was very nice of them.

It's amazing when I think of what they sold 10 years ago, when I first got there, compared to what they sell now - which is pretty much EVERYTHING. I practically get everything there that I don't get at the grocery store.

It's not a Prime thing, but I get numerous items over several categories on Auto Delivery and save 15% on each item. The amount I pay for dog food alone, compared to when I bought it at PetSmart, saves me $20 a month. That's just one thing.

I'm looking forward to it.

Hi Chic!

Yep, I watched the pilot which debuted this past August, and agreed with the other reviewers that this was extra special. It set up the series, plus I know two people that are M to F trans and some of what they've experienced.

There's extra poignancy, though, as it's the dad of a divorced pair that is trans (clever double meaning on the show's name!), and had to deny her authentic self all her life. Plus, the three adult kids have their own stuff going on, and the family dynamics are really unique.

And Jeffrey Tambor (a sweet man, BTW) is doing the best dramatic work of his career, at least IMHO.

No spoilers above.

Just like Hulu and Netflix thankfully offers, this show is another great alternative to the usual TV stuff, especially since most of that is totally non-original.

Oh, and "Transparent" has just broken Amazon's original series record, including the amount of binge-watching in one day. 8)

Check out the 3 reviews below plus Vulture.com's:

http://variety.com/2014/tv/reviews/tv-review-amazons-transparent-1201307061/

http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/television/2014/09/transparent_on_amazon_prime_reviewed_it_s_the_fall_s_best_new_show.html

http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/tv-review-jill-solloways-transparent-is-marked-by-comfort-intimacy-humor-20141008

Thanks for all that info, FG! I'm really looking forward to this one. Trying to get my Tivos caught up a bit and hoping to get to this one and to finish S02 of House of Cards. I started it a few weeks ago, watching E01 and E02, then I haven't been back for a number of reasons. I might just have to watch those two eps again. *sigh* Hate not having a memory anymore.

Good for Tambor! He's been around for a long time and I just love to see an actor who is mostly known for comedy to not only have an opportunity to do drama, but to excel in it. IMO, Robin Williams and John Lithgow were/are two actors who were brilliant with both genres.

PS: Rupert just turned four years old in July (wow, time flies when you're gettin' old!). I need to get some current pics of him on my Flickr acct. If you haven't seen them already, I do have quite a few already there, but just nothing in the past few months.

Remember when Jeff Bezos was on 'Oprah' in the mid-90's? They were pretty much selling just books and CD's at the time, and he mentioned that he started the company in his garage in the WA.

He was such a genuinely nice dude then and still is, plus he still loves 'old-fashioned' newspapers just as much as technology; he bought the Washington Post last autumn.

Like you, I also shop primarily two places: the grocery store and Amazon. 8)

I agree that the auto-delivery and their former "Subscribe & Save" service are awesome, but I've never been able to afford either on my only income of SSD. I'd like to buy some things in economy sizes/bulk, but can't as I've being living (thanks, God) $ to $ for the last nine years.

So, Amazon and it's services really are "prime" to me.

Also like you and Ru, when I had furbabies (kitties), the variety and prices for cat items - especially food and other holistic health & welfare products- couldn't be beat! I've also learned so much from other consumers' reviews, plus even just seeing what Amazon offeres in its sheer, enormous diversity of pet supplies.

In the future, I would never buy from anyone else when it comes to my furkid's health, as well as my own.

Do you also get Tarz's stuff there, CB?

(flickr.com/chickybutt)

Anytime, mama!

I know that you've got several series on standby to watch. My fave Netflix original series so far are 'Orange is the New Black' and "Happy Valley", in case you're interested.

It's fully OK about not binge-watching. I personally think it's kinda stressful and overwhelming, and even a bit full of pressure - more sh*t that I don't need to deal with, LOL.

Don't you just love how Netflix and Amazon have uploaded the entire seasons of some shows, while leaving any previous ones there as well? Wonder if Hulu will do the same with another original series to come, as the concept satisfies binge viewers and takin'-my-time'ers alike (like you and I).

I empathize with you re: memory challenges, plus also focus and concentration. Been like this for many years due to some health conditions and meds, plus thee xtra 'bonus' of perimenopause for the last 10+ years. It really can be so frustrating sometimes; grrr...

Um, who are you again?

Yeah, Tambor's a longtime veteran, and I agree about Robin and John's multifaceted talents.

Wow, the Ru Dude turned FOUR already this past summer! Happy Healthy Belated Birthday, baby, from Auntie Feline/Ru's Biggest Cyber Fan.

Please give him kisses and cuddles for me, and thanks for telling me and for the address where I can view and sob over his gorgeousness and supreme cuteness. Goldens have been a fave since I was a kid. 8)

FG - Oh, the Flickr banner isn't mine - that's theirs. Just the albums & pics of mine are what I put in. They do their own design. I'm just now loading a few newer pics if the site weren't so slow. Man, their new way of uploading photos is really lame!

I don't really get much for Tarzan at Amazon. All of his stuff is either fruit, veg, the birdie bread I make, the omelets I make (stuffed with stuff he should eat but doesn't like), and the seed/grain/nut/etc mix I get from a place in LA.

I always loved Goldens too. He's my first. He's such a sweet, funny, and seriously smart boy. I just wish he would not have this tendency for having ligament pulls. I'm so afraid he'll get a tear! I guess I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and always make sure I do my best for him.

Looking forward to viewing the extra stuff you're uploading as well.

Sounds like you've got not only Rupert's needs covered, but Tarzan's as well. Just like a mom to hide and disguise all the 'yucky nutrition' in surrounding yumminess, LOL. I had no idea that some birds enjoyed eggs (your omelet), and it's good to hear that he also like other healthy foods such as fruits, veggies, and seeds/grains/nuts.

All of them recommended for us hoomans as well.

That's so cute (and extra-nurturing) that you created and bake a homemade birdiebread. What's in it, in addition to love? (the most special ingredient, of course)

I'm thrilled for you that you're the guardian of your 'dream dog'. Wonder if there are extra nutrients or a supplement that can keep Ru's ligaments a bit stronger. I guess his tendency to pull them is just they way he was made.

Yep, keep doing what you're doing for him, and he'll always be in the very best physical health possible. The best emotionally and spiritually as well. 8)

I love taking pictures! I take a lot of little bitty birdie pics each day. I bring out some food for them that they enjoy. So cute! I just love birdies! I was really proud of those butterfly pics I got, too. On one of them I was out in my backyard (sans camera) and this butterfly came by me and lit on the tree in front of me. I asked him to stay put, went back in the house to get my camera, and when I came back out there he was still there! The second one I just shot through my kitchen window one day. He was pretty far up in the tree so I was out to my digital zoom but it still came out pretty decently.

The birdie bread isn't my recipe. I got it from a bird board years ago but, of course (me being me), I revised it a bit. One thing was that it had a bunch of veg oil in it. I replaced that with sugar-free applesauce. I actually do that with most bread or cake type recipes.

It has whole wheat flour, corn meal, pumpkin puree, some healthy nectars and juices, a variety of seeds and nuts - pretty much stuff that would go into human bread except that there are no eggs, no sugar, and no salt. It's probably not tasty to us but he seems to enjoy it. I make a big 15x10" pan of it which is enough for six months plus. Of course, I cut, freeze, and vacuum seal it into small packets so it stores well.

As for Ru - the doctor recommended giving him Glucosamine/Chondroitin some time back, so he gets that. Fortunately, the one my husband gets is a capsule so I can empty the capsules into his breakfast and mix that up with some pumpkin (good for him!), and a splash of water. I mix that up and he enjoys it. He likes the pumpkin!

I guess it's partly just a 'big dog' thing with the pulls but he just came off of a one month 'no running, jumping, or getting overly excited/ period so hopefully he's all good. I also cut his food by 25 grams per meal (50 grams a day) so as to bring his weight down a little. I'm thinking that might help. I don't think he needed to weigh 94lbs! He is looking a little more cut and he's not seeming to notice the reduction in his dry food. Of course he still gets his pumpkin and when we (he helps) are making Tarzan's breakfast he gets his two bites of fruit - usually apples or cantaloupe during the summer. He loves that!

Oops, sorry. This turned into a novel. I just happened to stop by here to do something on the computer. I'm not usually on at night anymore.

Sweet dreams!

chicky

I just happened to stop by here to do something on the computer. I'm not usually on at night anymore.

Sweet dreams!

chicky

chicky,

You have a knack for that passion, and the photos and nurturing that you do depict your love of nature and animals, especially birdies. (love them too, and their cute chickybutt tushies!) Tarz is gorgeous, um, handsome - what a stunner!

Loved how the butterfly on the tree was so obliging, but then you do have innate animal magnetism. Been blessed with that myself.

The birdie bread does sound yummy to me, LOL, and it really is like you to tweak the recipe. And very practical to make a lot ahead and then store it. You're naturally very creative when you cook and bake, so no surprise. I will definiitely note your tip on substituting that applesauce in any future baking endeavors.

That's a great natural supplement for Ru to be on, and the pumpkin that he so enjoys is great for his tummy/GI system. Yay!

Yeah, his size does contributes to a larger strain on his bones and joints, but that 'bed rest' I'm sure did him well. Must have been hard for him not to be a true Golden, though, and curb his inherent enthusiasm, exuberance, and high energy.

Reducing his calorie intake while increasing his fiber and nutrients (the pumpkin) sounds like it will work out perfectly, and keep him even healthier. So will the fruit 'treats' that are in-season so he doesn't feel left out of the Tarzan breakfast-makin' scene. That's even more healthy fiber and nutrients!

94 or whatever lbs. on one Golden could be different on another, depending on frame size and height. Just like us hoomans, heh. Your "looking a little more cut" and "helping to make Tarzan's breakfast" cracked me up.

There's no need at all to apologize, as you're talking to a total windbag here. Plus, I really enjoy your tales/tails, and you express things very well. Even nicer, it was a special night edition of the "Chickenbutt Chronicle".

Living solo and isolated, without my usual animal companion or a close friend, your humor and posts always make me feel good.

Sweet dreams right back; had 'em last night, so thanks!

hugs,

Feline
