WARNING! Poem in here...

Diary From Huancane

We drove inland on a summer day,

heat came hard and dry as stone--

Soft dresses hung from porches' bones,

dresses sewn by the women:

embroidered, ornate

Houses in Huancane breathe deep:

slow breaths as in ages past.

Any breeze wafted by trees recast

on them,

cooled air beneath.

Red stitching on dresses makes white cloth glow,

fresh art for wearing day to day,

Women move at an elegant pace,

gossiping quiet

as they sew.

Noon sun casts no hint of shadows--

shines like dresses the women wear.

Fragrance sifts through still, clean air

sweetening clothes fancy as cakes--

women's hair--tied in bows.

Do I look like a missionary? I've heard of them but I don't know. My hair is string-y tonight because I'm going to the salon tomorrow and I'm not wearing makeup. Is that it?
