Waiting and worrying (mammogram)

I am at my 5 year anniversary of breast cancer.

Just had my diagnostic mammogram and see my cancer surgeon next week.

I never think about it until this time comes.

I'm more worried this time because the girl who did my mammo is the one that always does it. And I had to sit while the tech Dr? reads it to see if I need more pictures.

It took longer than usual. Then she said we will send this to the Dr. (fine they always say that).

BUT than she added you do have an appointment don't you? I said yes. She said is it soon? I said yes next week. Then she said ok good.

She never said all that before so I'm concerned. She usually just says ok we will send this to your Dr. period.

Plus I had blood work last week and my blood count was high. I know that can be bad.

I did not say anything to my husband or my family of course, because don't want to make them wonder too.

(I often get a card if its clear, before I see my Dr so I'll be looking for that).

I am praying everything is ok and that I am just imagining her actions were different this time.

They said if I made it past 5 years I will be released from oncology. I assume 5 yrs is a magic time.

I am sure some of you can relate as I know there are a lot of people on here who have had breast cancer.

I sure hope everything is okay.

Not sure you can read anything in to the tech's actions.

It's why I had a double mastectomy when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Good luck.

Tech's have a way of scaring the bee-geezers out of one...so don't take this too much to heart. Wishing you the best.

I understand why this is so scary for you. Thoughts and prayers that you will find out soon that everything is OK. Maybe the 5 year appt is standard procedure and nothing to worry about

Hang tight, Shorty! I know what you mean, and at mammo time I think we all hold our breath! As a bc survivor (and colon cancer) I also know your feeling. My prayers and good wishes for good results.

Hoping that all is well, and I am sure it is. In situations like this, our minds tend to wander all over, and we seem to overanalyze every word that is said to us. It is just human nature. Please do let us know how you are doing. Take care.

It would seem to me if the person who read it thought there was an issue, he or she would have asked for more pics or an ultrasound, this seems very routine to me.

I know it's hard not to worry. Is it possible to call the doctors office before your appt. next week to get your test results?

Holding positive thoughts and prayers for a good outcome. It doesn't do us any good to say it, buy try to focus on other things and not worry. Charming2 had a good suggestion. The docs get the results pretty quickly, here it is sometimes withing 24 hours. I doubt they'd answer anything on the phone, but you could try to call them if it might ease your mind a little.

I think they would have wanted more pics or other testing if they didn't like what they were seeing, like Shelbelle said.

Shorty, just for the future, could you have your mammogram done at a Breast Imaging Center that has a radiologist on staff who looks at the films immediately and before you leave they tell you the results? There are many of these centers where I live and they really take the worry out of days of waiting for the doctor to call with the results.

Sending thoughts and prayers to you. I know this is upsetting because I think usually the radiologist comes out and says everything is ok or they didn't see anything. If you have had cancer I know from experience they want to biopsy everything even if they are 99% sure it is nothing. I would almost call his office and ask him.
