Sofia Vergara in the movie Chef

I attended a private viewing of the movie Chef. Excellent! Bravo!

Sofia Vergara starred in it and I immediately noticed that her accent wasn't as heavy and pronounced. So that makes me wonder if she is exaggerating it for the camera/audience or if she was trained to tone it down.

Just wondering….

Although I don't dislike her, I keep wondering who the real Sofia Vergara is. Whether onscreen or in person, it seems she is always still acting. She's like a cartoon character IMO.

I saw her on a talk show the other day and her accent was stronger than ever. While I know it has native roots, I believe a lot of it is now affective.

She's a beautiful lady but I've grown tired of her Charo-esque shtick.

I saw her on a talk show fairly soon after Modern Family started and she said she exaggerated the accent because it was funnier. Especially how she says Jay.

Wasn't that movie out in May? I thought I saw its coming out on video this week.

Anyway I didn't see the movie, but Im not a fan of Sophia or Modern Family.

sorry OT, but did anyone see Kathleen Turner on cable with an acting class. It was wonderful! and I turn the volume wayyy down when Vergara is yelling with that accent! It's not cute to me at all

This movie was highly recommended to me. Then I heard SV was in it and lost all interest in seeing it. I generally don't watch movies with actors who annoy me. She is beyond annoying, she is obnoxious.

Not sure about Sofia but actors/actresses can certainly be vocally trained.

If you watch Nashville, the guy that plays the character of Gunnar speaks with a British accent but on the show, there is no hint of it at all. The woman who plays Scarlett speaks with an Australian accent but again, she has a heavy southern accent on the show.

Chef is a nice, fun movie with an uplifting storyline. I liked the entire cast and didn't notice much difference with her accent. It has been out for awhile. I watched it on a flight a few months ago.

It was a great fun movie that we saw at the start of the Summer.
