I went to the eye doctor yesterday and asked about multi-focal lenses and he suggested trying mono-vision. He said there's about 30% success with multi-focal lenses.

He gave me a trial pair yesterday and I have to go back for a follow up next week. He said we may have to tweak them.

I'm actually surprised at how well I can read without readers now, however, not sure I like how I'm seeing for distance. This is only the second day but yesterday driving home it seemed difficult to read street signs without getting closer to them than I normally would.

Even signs in the mall where the doctor is were a bit fuzzy from a distance.

I had a post on multi-focal lenses, now gone, and think some of you said you did the mono-vision, just wondering about your experience.

I know a couple of people who have done the monovision thing (with contacts, not Lasix.) One raves about it, the other says her vision is acceptable but not all that sharp.

I'm 69 and wore mono vision for many years until about seven or eight years ago. Ultimately, I needed both eyes to do everything, so I now wear bifocal contacts and love them.

Have used mono vision contacts for years with good results but it did take several weeks to adjust or train myself to see.......so take your time......

I wore mono vision lenses for years. I started with one but as as I aged and my eyes worsened, I wore different strengths in each eye. I did this for about 10 years, then had Lasik mono vision correction.

I have monovision. Right eye is far sighted, left is near sighted. I have contacts but they bother me. Ugh, when I put them in, I can't wait to take them out, then it's awful getting them out. It's so odd, when I do the eye test I see great with both eyes, but when I do the eye test with only one eye, I don't do so well. My doc said that my brain has gotten used to adjusting my vision. Ha!

I wear one lens only for distance. I've been doing it for 10 years and it works well, but if I drive at night, I always use my glasses or put in the second lens since both eyes are the same. I've never needed reading glasses but in the past year, I have been having trouble reading small print and I use a pair of drugstore reading glasses with a 1x magnification. I went to monovision because when I was teaching I couldn't read with my glasses on and bifocals made me dizzy.

I wear one contact and love it. I hated having to put on reading glasses for everything, especially one second here and there. I do think my distance could be clearer, but I just got used to it because it was worth not needing reading glasses. The only problem is night driving. I put in my other contact or glasses for that.
