IPhone 5 owners----Help!!!!

A symbol popped up on my phone and I can't figure out what it is.

It's in the upper right hand corner---there is the battery symbol then to the left the Bluetooth symbol and to the left of that is the puzzlement.

It looks like the old phone receiver (talk in one end hear in other) with I believe it's 2 words or just dots. Unfortunately these old eyes aren't any help.

Anyone know what I'm talking about---please?

Could it possibly look like a moon and that you have the do not disturb feature on?

When you tilt your phone from vertical to horizontal does the screen also flip?

I looked it up for you, and found this:

This symbol is a talking feature for def people. Go to setting, then go to phone settings, go down to the bar which says TTY and slide it off. This will do the trick and the symbol will go away.

If you see this symbol in the status bar, it means that TTY is on.

Teletype (TTY) machines are used by deaf and hard of hearing people to communicate by typing and reading text. If you have the iPhone TTY Adapter, available at www.apple.com/store, you can use iPhone with a TTY machine.
