Amazon Prime

Today ends my trial with Amazon Prime.

I used it once/the day I signed up. Think I'm going to cancel today, unless someone here can tell me what it is good for. I don't stream movies so that is not an option. I'm thinking maybe at Christmas time it will come in handy but notice it is not free shipping on everything... Your thoughts, PLEASE. beanie

I think it depends on your particular shopping habits, if you alone are using it or if there are others in the household who could use it, how quickly you want your item(2), etc. Sometimes it is cheaper if you can get free shipping on an order of $35, but there are times you don't want a $35 order and just want that single item. Technically, Prime items ship free, but they're usually more expensive because the shipping is included in the price. I shop on Amazon a lot, and like my Prime membership, but everyone needs to decide if it's suitable to their own situation.

I buy many gifts during the holidays which more then pays for prime.

Quick check . . . we've done 57 orders this year. YIKES. Before Prime my husband averaged 30-35 orders a year the last few years. Now, just as easy to order, have in two days, save one hour or more driving to/from town, the gas getting there and sometimes sale tax, and many times a LOWER price online. Win-Win.

Before, he ordered extra little JUNK to get to 25.00 . .. I can't imagine what JUNK he'd order getting to 35.00 nowadays.

That said . . . we do get it 1/2 price due to the .edu email address signing up with my daughters college email account. In a pinch, daughter has even ordered an emergency charging cord for her roommates laptop at 1/3 of Best Buy's B&M store price OR another study friend who accidentally ordered an international version of a textbook . . . and order for them using their credit card and shipped to their address . . . then upon receipt of the package we delete their "info" . . . so works great for helping out friends in need out too!!!

I think Prime is worth it even IF we had to pay full price . . . my husband might disagree . . . I still remember when I signed up and he was like "why did you do that?" and of course now he LOVES it . . . he just likes to pinch a penny a little too hard sometimes! And the best part for me is that he no longer orders more JUNK to orders to get "free shipping".

It's a matter of how much you order & how quickly you want it delivered. If you don't order from Amazon very often, then it's probably not a good value for you.

It's worth the price for me because I shop a lot with Amazon. A previous poster stated that the prices are higher because the shipping's included, but I disagree with that statement. I've comparison-shopped numerous items & certainly would not buy from Amazon if it cost more than getting it elsewhere. I know for sure that the cookbooks sold on QVC cost much less at Amazon, & if it's a Prime eligible item, the shipping's free. Case in point, I just ordered Meredith Lawrence's Cooking Under Pressure cookbook, which sells for $20 + $6 shipping at QVC & I'm getting it for just under $20, so a savings of $6.

I don't use it. I shop at lot at Amazon, sometimes I get my items in a few days, but always within a week, so that is fine with me. The majority of what I buy has free shipping.

I don't think anybody else can tell you if it is worth it to you. If you've only had one order in the last month and don't expect to be ordering that much, and you aren't using any of the other aspects of Prime, then it's not worth it to you.

I use the video a little but I order a LOT from Amazon, so it is worth it to me. I order a lot of household staples there and have auto-deliveries that also save me an additional 15% each month

Just the amount I save on dog food for the year is WAY more than I pay for Prime. I save $18 to $20 per month on the bag of dog food, over what I paid for it at Petsmart. That is over $200 a year in savings alone. It's not directly about 'Prime' membership, but it's just one aspect of what I purchase at Amazon and how I save money buying there, and buying on auto-delivery.

Too bad QVC doesn't give you a discount for auto-delivery orders.

I just ordered 2 of the Skinny cookbooks ($18.90/ea) on Amazon.

1 for me and 1 for SIL.

$36+ and FREE shipping.

I agree, it all depends on you. If you only used it once, why sign up for it again?

I use it all the time, and not just for books. I never watch the free videos. I use it over and over for many things. Last year, we had the flu and then that horrible intestinal virus going around SF, and pneumonia. Back to back. We were in constant need of Kleenex, TP and paper towels, but we couldn't go out of the house. I ordered several times through Amazon, every time we were getting low, it was here in two days.

I order gifts and surprises for the family all the time. All of them last year, since I was too sick to go shopping. I just ordered a new banana hanger, DH said our old one was falling apart. I ordered an expensive facial cleanser for my daughter because she has sensitive skin and I knew that one would work.

But the bottom line is based on how you want to shop.

It's pretty cool that you can find pretty much ANYTHING there and, often, for the best price too. I remember when Amazon was just media items - books, music, and movies.

I buy so much basic stuff there that I used to have to buy at the store. As it gets harder for me, this is just the way to purchase.

Something must be on fire somewhere around here the last several days because I couldn't even go outside and now, today, it's permeated my house so I can barely breathe. I was going to go to the store but can't even chance it.

I think, due to my asthma, these fires (wherever they are) are just giving me a lot of grief. It's been weird the last several days - it seems clear and the sky is blue every morning. Then, around mid to late afternoon, smoke settles in for the rest of the day/night. Then it's clear in the morning again.

But this morning was different. It looks fairly clear outside but my house is really smoky - well, not visually but it smells like smoke and is impeding my breathing. I haven't yet found out where this fire is. It's not as bad as when Mt St Helens blew, but, smoke-wise, it's the worst I've seen in a long time.

Ah, that's it! I get it, I have a hard time with smoke in the air, also. I hope you can find some relief. Do you have an inhaler, CB?

I almost feel like I should open the windows to let the smoky smell OUT of the house, but it's smoky out there too. ha! No winning. It'll be ok. I just hope wherever these fires are that they are out soon.

mr henny and I go through about three books a week. We order them from amazon and we also order our fancy feast for the three kitties. It is a very good saving. We also order testing supplies for my diabetes, frontline for the cats and many other things. We just got a new step ladder yesterday. It is great!
