topic Teeth - Crown Lengthening??? in Community Chat

Hey! Just wondering if anyone has had this done. I broke a tooth today and unfortunately it broke down below the gum line and the dentist has told me we need to do a crown lengthening which involves lowering/cutting the gum line around that tooth and also possibly a millimeter off the bone. I guess it's so the new crown will sit properly and not be under the gum which would cause problems.

When he explained it, it didn't sound all that bad but I made the mistake of looking online and now I'm a nervous wreck! It almost seems like major surgery but the dentist told me we would just use a local. I'd almost rather be out cold! But then I hate having work done on my mouth.

If anyone has had this done, please let me know what it was like. Was it a fairly easy procedure? Did you have a lot of pain afterwards? Did it heal quickly?

A big thank you in advance!
