I am having a sinus lift Monday Morning possibly followed by a dental implant. I know, this sounds drastic. Trying to think positively and look at the big picture. Has anyone had this and how was the recovery? I can,t blow my nose while healing and must sneeze with my mouth open. This is tough.

I don't have any experience of that but I had a tympanoplasty two weeks ago. My ear drum perforated due to repeated sinus infection. A graft of my skin from behind the ear was surgically put in place of the ear drum. I also cannot blow my nose and have to sneeze with my mouth open incase. I wish u all the best for your procedure and recovery.

I had that done a few years ago. It wasn't the funnest thing in the world. I kept my head elevated while sleeping. I also used arnica to help with the healing (I was pretty bruised on one side). Good luck.

It costs more (which itself is deserving of a long string of choice curse words) and the implant doesn't get put in for at least 6 months. I had those little silver caps that cover the implant screws towards the front of my mouth. I looked ridiculous when I smiled. Anyway it's done and I'm glad I did it. The results are fantastic and they really do look, feel and act like real teeth.

It takes time and patience chesslady but in the end you will be very happy.

I had a sinus lift and bone graft with my dental implant and I can honestly say it was no bother at all. It didn't hurt, didn't swell, and I didn't have to do anything special afterwards. I was told not to blow my nose hard (not easy, with allergies and a nose that runs a lot) but nothing bad happened.

And all that under local anesthetic.

Really, nothing to worry about. It was a breeze.

Oh, and one more thing. Ice packs are your BEST FRIEND after the surgery. It really keeps down the swelling and bruising.

Twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am using local anesthetic and will drive myself home. The oral surgeon has a good reputation, he actually teaches and gives talks to other professionals. They have the latest equipment and he does these procedures often. So I am in good hands and will check back after it's over.

I promised to get back to you on this. I have the dental implant but he did not do the sinus lift. He said the adjacent tooth had a long root that he did not want to damage and that my jaw was small with limited access for the procedure. So he used a shorter screw and nudged the sinus with a tool rather than cutting a window. The most weird part was when he took a hammer to force the implant into the bone, my whole head was reverberating. i have had some dull pain when the anesthetic wore off but it's getting better. It will heal for 4 months and then I will get a crown over it. Thank you for all the well wishes.
