topic Question about phone minutes in Community Chat

I know that number of text messages is listed on the phone bill, but are the minutes used completely separate from that? In other words, are the minutes listed for time spent TALKING only or are they part of the time spent texting?

Also, are Facebooking via an iPhone considered part of text messages, or is that something completely separate?
