"On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received," Rivers said in a statement, obtained by NBC News. "At this time she does remain on life support."

She added: "I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."

So very sad. Come on Joan. You can do this. Pull out of this and give us some funny jokes about it all. Praying for you and your family.

So confused. Thought they had been awakening her from medical induced coma since Sunday and that although she was in serious condition was showing small increments of improvement. This cannot be good. Very saddened to just learn she is on life support. How heartbreaking for her family and all of us that love her so much. My prayers are continual, Joan.

If she still is in a medically induced coma, she would remain on life support.

They generally withdraw the sedation slowly. It can be a process.

This may not be either good or bad at this point.

The real test comes when the sedation is light enough or gone to determine if she breathes on her own and regains consciousness.

May not be telling much at this time.

Has there ever been a report from the hospital that she was showing improvement?

Everything I've heard or read was from unnamed sources.

Until the hospital holds a press conference, everything is speculation.

I read an article that said Melissa is hysterical so I doubt she is in any position to give a reasonable announcement of any kind abut her mother.

Everyone is confused because no one wants to say the obvious... This leads to rumors and false statements.

I read earlier where the Doctors were slowly taking her off of life support to see what was going on, so I guess we really don't know what is going on!

You don't just stop a medically induced coma - it is weaned off slowly - then once the person eventually awakens you do not just remove the life support - it too must be weaned off slowly.The process requires a great deal of patience, and a lot of time. I am a retired ICU RN - so I know this - I am not just giving an opinion. You are unlikely to hear any info of any value for a while yet.

NEW YORK (AP) - Joan Rivers' family is confirming that the comedian is on life support after going into cardiac arrest last week during a procedure at a doctor's office.

Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, said in a statement Tuesday that her mother is on life support "at this time." Melissa said the family is extremely grateful for the public support.

Joan Rivers was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan last Thursday. The 81-year-old comic and red carpet commentator has maintained a busy career as host of "Fashion Police" on the E! network and co-star of the WEtv reality show, "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?"

Melissa Rivers said Tuesday that she knows her mother would be overwhelmed by the continuing outpouring of kindness.

They said they were going to try to take her out of the medically induced coma today. Perhaps they tried that and it did not work. Therefore, the update from Melissa that she is still on life support.

IMO, they must have some hope or they would have given up by now.

HH is correct, nothing has changed as far as has been reported. Bringing someone out of a medically induced coma isn't instantaneous, it's done slowly.
