It must be Fall...flu shots

I know it isn't officially Fall yet, but for the last three weeks, all the pharmacies around our house have the "we have the flu shot" signs out. It seemed really early to me to have them out in mid-August.

We won't get our shots till toward the end of this month, but when I see the flu shot signs, I know Fall is coming.

I'd like to just have Fall, pass right over winter and have it be Spring again.

Got my flu shot last Friday and also pneumonia vaccine. I'm looking forward to fall and winter.

Will probably be getting my shot some time in early October, and believe I too am due for the pneumonia shot.......

We are supposed to have another winter like last year.......Oh my........

My doctor recommends every 10 years.

Every 5 years. I only know because DH just had his 70th birthday and got an e mail from the ins. co reminding him to renew his pneumonia shot.

I get my flu shot in October. I'm not sure when I had my last pneumonia shot. Will have to look it up.

Me too! The only good thing about Fall & Winter is Spring & Summer

The drugstores and supermarkets in my area have signs advertising flu shots. I receive mine every year in October based on my physician's recommendation. I am 68 years of age and will get the extra strength vaccine recommended for those of us over the age of 65.

Our area has the signs up too but they keep them up all year because they are advertising well baby shots too. We get our flu shots in late October or November because it stays warm her through November. If we were up north, we'd be getting them in late September. I have another year before I get another pneumonia shot.

I had my son get his b4 I took him back to college.

I know he won't do it there and he knows he doesn't want to get sick!

I wish I'd scheduled one when I saw my doctor the other day. I'll get it soon and probably a shingles shot, too.

In '09 I received a tetanus shot and it also contained the diptheria vaccine. It was called Td. I had already read even back in '09 that pertussis was on the rise in So Ca but no one seemed in the least bit concerned in my neck of the woods. I think if I had gotten a tetanus shot now, I would request the one that included pertussis which is whooping cough for those who don't know. Is there a rise in Diptheria? I have not heard so. Yet if you want the pertussis vaccine included, you get all three. Despite that, I am not going to get a flu shot. I also will stock up on hand soap and refrain from sugary treats during Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah.

Actually the PPV (pneumonia vaccine) is recommended only once at age 65 and above. In a few cases, such as diabetes it can be given upon diagnosis and then once again at age 65. This is per the CDC recommendations. It is not a vaccine that "boosts" well.

DH and I get the flu shot every year, usually late October or early November.

We both had the shingles vaccine last year. I had a very bad case of shingles many years ago and ended up with neuralgia which lasted for over a year. I never want shingles again; no pain meds were effective in controlling the horrible pain I had with them.
