The re-released/re-mastered version is being released today.

The original was released on June 1, 1984. (USA)

That is one funny movie!

I was watching an episode of Final 24 about the death of John Belushi. Dan Ackroyd claims he was trying to talk Belushi in to joining the cast of the movie.

It was my sons favorite movie as a kid. He's in his 30's now and still had every word of the entire movie memorized because he's seen it 1,000 (guessing) times! lol.

When he was a kid he used to have the back pack and all the gear and would pretend he was hunting ghosts.

I heard they are doing another Ghostbusters movie. Its a shame Harold Ramis isn't alive to be in it too.

Splitting hairs, but....it really came out 30 yrs ago in JUNE 1984. Would be curious to find out why the OP thought August '84. I remember having so much fun w/ that movie during the summer of 1984.

My son just turned 11 and loves the Ghostbusters movies. Someone gave him a DVD for his birthday a few years ago. He's getting the Ecto 1 Lego set for Christmas this year.

For the poster thinking the movie is too 'juvenile'....sorry that you feel things are beneath you and you lead a sad, sorry, boring, OLD life! FYI, there is NO movie that I would consider too juvenile....some Disney animated classics you would probably ignore are among my FAVORITES!

I LOVED that movie and am probably going to see it in theaters this coming week. How cool will that be? I was just a youngin' when it first came out....so will be great to see it on the big screen!

Too 'juvenile'? Nope...that's not a word I would use. Creative writing? Excellent comedic timing? A film that identifies within that era of Pop Culture? DEFINITELY! All those actors had such good chemistry outside of filming...and having Bill Murray ad lib many of his lines just adds to the genius of this movie.
