Good Luck. It will be a piece of cake. I had my right eye done on August 5. My friend, who took me, and I went out to eat afterward. I'm having the left eye done on Sept. 9 and then I'll be all done. The downside to this surgery is that now when I look in the mirror, I see very scary things I never saw before. YIKES!!! Good luck and post when you can to let us know how you did. Just made a salad and put a pizza in the oven.

Will be back after I eat. I am starved. All they gave me was coffee.

All went swimmingly. The preparations took more time than the actual surgery. Starting an IV, doing a rhythm strip, testing my blood sugar, taking BP etc..... They must have put 25 drops in my eye while I was still in the ER. They told me I was going to be taken to surgery. Next thing I knew, the doctor was working on me, and I heard this buzzing sound and he said it was a vacuum. They had a cover over my face so I couldn't even see with my "other" eye. When they took it off, I saw I had been in surgery and never even knew when or how I got there. They gave me Versed.

Then, I was taken to "recovery" and they got my husband and we sat there for about 20 minutes and they gave me coffee.... After I drank it, they let me go. No muss, no fuss. I have a patch over my eye and the doctor said I should take it off at dinnertime and continue to put the drops in then and also at bedtime. He said I have deep-set eyes and he doesn't want it to be dry, therefore the drops.

I think I will put a gauze pad over my eye anyway, because they kept reminding me not to get anything in my eye. Well, how do you prevent that? I am afraid I might scratch it or do something. He told me to come back tomorrow at about 11 am. At that time, I'll get sunglasses and whatever else they give you. Also, no bending from the waist down and no lifting anything.... Not to worry - hubby does it all.

The other eye will be done 2 weeks from today, if all goes well. He would have done it next week but it's Labor Day and he operates on Mondays only.

So glad all went well. I'm due to have both eyes done but if my daughter keeps cancelling taking me to the doctor I'll go blind before I have it done. I may have to call a cab because depending on my daughter is like expecting snow in Arizona in August.

Just got back from my follow-up doctor visit.

All is well. My eye is still dilated pretty much Last night I took the patch off at 7 pm and my eye would NOT open up. I honestly thought I had muscle damage.... It took about 3 hours for me to be able to squint a little bit and then it was so bright, I had to close it up again.

Then, about 10 pm, I got up from the couch and walked about 3 steps to the computer and all of a sudden, I had double vision. I saw one TV screen on top of the other, etc..... I ran (almost fell) in to where my husband was and told him I had a problem. He tried to calm me down and tell me it was because my eye was so dilated, he could only see the pupil and my eye was not following his finger. My "good" eye was moving but this eye was just sitting there.

Soooo, I put a piece of gauze and some tape over it when I went to bed, just to be sure nothing got into it and this morning, I slowly tested it and of course, still being dilated, everything was very, very bright white with blue tint. At least the double vision was gone.

Anyway, we went to the doctor and I am still dilated a lot but I could see the letters without my glasses much better than before the surgery.

My next eye will be done a week from Monday, same time, same station. The strangest thing about this whole thing is, when I look at things with my "new" eye, I noticed that all my appliances are white, not almond, as I thought they were. The kitchen curtains aren't "dingy" after all either. What a difference.

They give you a great pair of sunglasses too. They fit right over my glasses and the doctor said I will be able to wear drugstore glasses after this......No more $6-800 dollar glasses.........Medicare pays for the first pair of glasses in case anyone is interested.

Lindsays Grandma: Don't put this off. Please tell your daughter how important it is. If she won't take you, it pays to take a cab. If I lived near you, I would send my husband over to take you. Don't fool with your eyesight.

I am so glad your surgery went well Sophia! You may want to pick up an eye patch at the drug store instead of gauze. (People on here suggested that to me). Now my Mother in law (who got her eyes done elsewhere), they gave her a patch to wear in bed so she would not accidently rub her eyes.

And to Lindsays Grandma I had thought your eyes were all done. I was waiting to hear how you did. Tell your daughter you cannot cancel and really need this surgery asap! Best of luck!

What's with the eye patch? I had both of mine done, one eye with a Multi-focal iol and the other with a Mono-focal. Had the Multi done first and I could read the paper before I left the surgical center. I know I am not the exception as my 89 year old mother-in-law had both of hers done when she was 87, and nary a patch on either eye.
