St. Elmos Fire, Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, Better off Dead, Back to the Future, ET, and probably a few dozen others I can't think of right now.

16 Candles was on the other day and it took me right back to 14 and being a freshman in high school. I have liked pretty much all parts of my life for the most part but that was a fun and carefree time.

ETA: I don't know how ""influential"" it was but it was the first one that came to mind.

My friends and I wrote a disgruntled letter to Time Mag when they gave it a bad review!

First one that came to mind was The Graduate. I was in high school and saw it at a drive-in theater. To Sir With Love, Georgie Girl and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner were all big hits with me, too.

Hi, biker, I am of an earlier generation. For me it was Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey". I think I saw it 12 times in the Boston Cinerama theatre. Still a movie I watch once in a while.

Jaws, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, The Exorcist, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Close Encounters. Also, as Bunsite mentioned Odyssey..was a great movie, ahead of it's time.

I don't know about "coming-of-age movies" but three of the most influential were:

Planet of the Apes (1968), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and Soylent Green (1973)

Also in college, I loved Truffaut's "Shoot the Piano Player", which was made in c. 1960s but didn't show in the USA for some years. Charles Aznavour is wonderful in that film.

I can't really say if these movies were "influential," but they're the ones I remember with affection from those years.

West Side Story, Georgie Girl, Summer of '42, American Graffiti, The Graduate, Fail Safe (scared me and made me very aware of how close nuclear war could be), It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, and many others.
