What is your favorite modern invention?

I was born ion 1949. As a kid growing up we did not have a TV - though the lady across the street used to allow us to watch Howdy Doody after school at her house. Of course all the modern things younger folks take for granted now a days were not invented yet back then.We got our first computer as a gift from my Uncle around 1988 - he got one for everyone in the family so we could all e mail each other. Microwave came along around 1990. Cell phone - first one was a bag phone and it was also right around the early 90's.

I would say my favorite new invention is the microwave or the internet. I drink a lot of tea so I use the MW a lot and I do love keeping in touch with family and friends via the internet. Come to think of it I also really use texting a whole lot too. I suppose I like ALL the modern inventions.

Probably the internet. My mom got a microwave in 1971 or 1972.

The internet, followed by DVR for tv viewing, I rarely use our microwave.

The microwave came with the house and is the stovetop's ventilation system or I wouldn't have one either probably.

frost free refrigerator, until we finally got one I had to help my mother defrost the freezer every two weeks with big pots of hot water!

Modern for me are things that came to be during my growing up and adult periods of time, so AC and TV wouldn't be on my list. I'll choose personal computers and cell phones.

The first modern convenience we had as kids was a dishwasher. It sure made our chores much easier as kids. My mother would make dinner every night. Couldn't live without one now. Then a microwave. Use it every day. Then we got a colored tv, first ones in the hood to have one. I could care less about cell phones, mine is ancient but still works.

We live a couple doors down from a house that was built in 1847. I knew it was an older house but I didn't know how old until recently. I have spent a lot of the summer looking at that house and wondering what this land looked like when they built it, what the people were like and how darn hot and tough summers must of been for them so without a doubt I have to say AC. It is something you don't think about when you have it but it is something you can't stop thinking about when you don't especially in NC summers.

What is your favorite modern invention?

All that improve diagnosis of serious disease and the many devices that help people live a full life. Not necessarily a longer life, but a life in which they can still be an active participant. I do not mean this for only humans, but also for our domestic furry family members.

Even though I have been deemed an electronics/gadget geek, TV/DVD and many of the other things mean much less to me that being able to live a full life for however many years. Some things that have allowed me to live a few more years of my active life were not available in times past.

Those are my favorites.

At this time of year, I'd have to say air conditioning! The Internet runs a close second.
