I didn't see anything too out of the ordinary for a gymnastics routine to music. I found her makeup more inappropriate for a 9 year old than her routine. I didn't see any ""bumping and grinding"" that you see young kids trying to imitate when they just dance.

Seemed too long. Was it a solo at a recital or dance competition? And I'd say it was about 75% appropriate. 25% NOT appropriate for a 9 yr old or a dance studio where dance is taught to students, males & females, between the ages of 3 & 18. The 75% part, she is a good little dancer.

They did NOT dance like that at our studio at recitals or competitions. Ever.

That little girl can really dance and tumble, but I would not feel comfortable letting my child dance a routine like that, the dance moves are too sexual.

I'm not educated in dance and what's appropriate. I thought her costume was a bit racy as were her moves where she stuck her but.t out and kept spreading her legs. But I might be totally off base because I don't know what's usual for a dance routine for that type and age. It was entertaining and made me long to be that flexible again.

Hi croemer My computer is too old to see the video but I have seen some young girls that age dance and I don't support this with young children. I think it is terrible the way Mother's dress up their daughters for different contests.

I know someone will jump on me for this but I feel it is wrong.

Not. She is very talented. Age appropriate? Not. More clothes would have helped, but not a lot. A ring on it at her age?

I didn't watch the whole thing..seemed kind of repetitive. here is my take: I am surprised to see this for a 9 year old's routine. My daughter was both a competitive gymnast as well as in dancing. She did a routine to this song in college, and I don't think their moves were as edgy as this young girl's moves. And yes, the young girl did bump and grind her hips.

When my daughter's competitive dance teams went to competitions, the younger age groups actually got points taken off their performances if the judges felt their costumes or routines weren't age appropriate. This meant they didn't like to see the younger girls doing anything too "se ually suggestive" Not sure how much I can explain it here, and still have it go through! And these were judges at competitions in CA, where it seems everyone thinks we have no guidelines, based on what ever goes on in Hollywood. Not so at all.

Her costume was a bit more revealing than most of those at our studio but I did start to notice the last 2 years they were getting a little more revealing. Before they always IF it was a two piece or cut out stomach area it had the skin toned fabric not "real skin" showing.

But after going to a couple of the competitions . . . our studio was tame, lame or whatever you might want to call it in comparison to some. Compared to those . . . her dance routine was something you'd see at a church dance in comparison. If you know what I mean.

I saw nothing inappropriate with her dance moves. She is very talented and very flexible, which alas, some people will think the worst of. Not everything is "dirty".

My DD was a competitive Cheerleader and had a lot of dance in her routines and I know they were beginning to get a bit provocative. I do not know what the answer is ...if you are too tame you will not be competitive unfortunately.

This girl is so talented at 9...I do not know how she will improve.

My daughter has been out of dance two years now, after 15 years. Again, our dance studio was more reserved than many . . . but today . . . IF done at our recital . . . it might be allowed by a 16, 17 or 18 year old . . . but not a 9.

Exactly..and that is how they're judged at competitions. What a 16 can and should do is different than what the judges want to see from a 10 year old who can show off her skills in other ways.

Have you ever been to a competitive dance competition for el-high kids and heard the judges comments following their routines? I have...was a volunteer for my daughter's team for almost 10 years.

You make a good point. But until they set strict guidelines...your DD may be competing against someone like this and not sure what your odds of winning would be.

And my daughter's team traveled all over the country, as well as to China and Italy. In China...we really toned down their routines, and tried to make them more conservative, but we learned we didn't do enough.

Croemer, the judges take points off and comment on what they think isn't age appropriate, while still trying to award the kids points based on dance ability.
