Yes and I've gotten good deals. I don't go around looking for them, but if there is one in my neighborhood, I certainly check it out.

No. Don't like to have garage sales or visit them. Just not me. I was watching our garage sale once while my husband was at his softball game. End of the day, it began to sprinkle and I got bored. Wrote a sign that said -- free or best offer. My last time to have a garage sale. I know garage sales are great for a lot of people.

I had one once years ago. I now just throw it away or donate. I don't have the patience to hold on to it until I have a yard sale.

Yes we made a shriving ebay business out of them. What is one mans junk is another mans treasure. we have acquired a number of items from garage sales that collectors have bid extremely high on.

It didn't happen over night, but iPhone and the internet let you check to see if you found a bargain within moments.

YES! They are great in my area and very common. I've bought a lot of antiques at garage sales and too many items to list. This thread and thrift shops appear often. We go just about every weekend.

As irrational as it may be, I always have a fear of bringing someone else's problems (i.e. bedbugs, lice) home with me in used items.

I have a friend who has a knack for finding great buys, especially art work. She lives a bit too far for me to go junking with her anymore.

I find it distasteful to paw through other people's castoff junk. Hate garage sales and thrift shops.

Some of that castoff junk is worth a lot of money. do you know how many antique items we've picked up from art to limited edition paintings. gold in the junk jewelry box for 25 cent. 1st edition books, pieces from overseas that came from old taverns since shut down.

we only go for the money items.

I never go, but I LOVE garage sales. I already have a houseful of stuff and hate clutter so I try to be careful about what gets in thru the door. But I love looking thru other people's stuff. Don't know what that says about me. But, like I said, I never go to them.

Nope. I had them in years gone by with all the Fisher-Price, Little Tikes, Playschool toys, kid clothes and baby equipment like bed, strollers, swings etc. etc.

Now, I just donate my stuff to Purple Heart, Salvation Army, Goodwill and Downtown Rescue Mission multiple times per year.

Gave multiple Expeditions full of stuff to daughters friend her in the "neighborhood" who is getting married next Saturday . . . her parents could really afford to help her so many friends and family donated a ton of stuff . . . enough that they had at least 2 good sales and made several thousand dollars.

My sister can do that. She can spy a valuable item from 100 paces. She can go spend a Saturday and 25 bucks and turn it into anywhere from 500.00 to 2000.00. She doesn't do it so much anymore but definitely has the "eye" to spy the "good" stuff.

She found some artwork a couple of years ago . . . I guess since then the artist died and her sons who are now I believe BILLIONAIRES have opened up a museum in that town featuring their Mother's work . . . they wanted her piece, I think she paid 5.00 for it . .. and their pilot of their plane met her at the airport and paid her for it. I think to the tune of 2 grand.

Me, I went with her a few times when I was visiting, back home in Texas, and all I see I PURE D JUNK. I do NOT have the knack for it.

I got a mirror at an estate sale almost 1 yr ago. I wanted it for my beach house because I have really tall ceilings and it was a huge framed mirror (8ft) and it had a very lovely ornate frame surrounding it. I bought it for $500 and I had to have it stabilized to have it hung because it was so large and heavy. I called the guy that several people referred me to and he came out with his team to take a look at it and to give me a price. He asked me about the mirror, where I got it and for how much. He was shocked I only paid $500 for it and he asked if he could bring in his friend who was an appraiser. The appraiser offered me $25,000 for it. Told me it was about 200 yrs old and gave me a few other details about it. I was shocked. I said no because I love the mirror and want it in my home. It is pretty neat to look at it hanging and wonder how many other people have looked at themselves in it over time. Of course I had it insured but I don't ever plan on selling it. My daughter will get it if she wants, if not she can sell it.

That is the only time I have found something of real serious value at an estate or garage sale that I wasn't aware of beforehand. I know a couple of people who have bought what they thought was costume jewelry at a garage sale and it turned out to be real gold/platinum and gemstones.

She would always tell me . . . you have to look at a lot of junk to find the good stuff . . . me no patience for that.
