84 mile per gallon....

Would you buy/drive one of these?

The Elio, a three-wheeled prototype vehicle, is shown in traffic in Royal Oak, Mich., Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014. Instead of spending $20,000 on a new car, Paul Elio is offering commuters a cheaper option to drive to work. His three-wheeled vehicle The Elio will sell for $6,800 car and can save on gas with fuel economy of 84 mpg.

I love the concept but I would be very afraid to drive this on my commute each day.

The way people drive around here I wouldn't be caught in a vehicle like that. The Smart cars are bad enough-

I want something that offers protection-

There are a couple of Smart cars on the highway duirng my morning commute....along with a couple motorcyclists....scarey.....I drive a major hwy the goes into Dallas where there are lots of big trucks along with 100's of thousands of commuters travelling southbound everyday.....it is a really bad commute compounded by the fact that there are a lot of very very bad drivers out there too....and add cell phone distraction to the picture....accidents every single day....I never leave for work without listening to the traffic report while getting ready for work each day....it's more important than the weather.

tansy...my thoughts too....as long as I did not have to drive any major highway and only dealt with downtown driving I would be fine with it to get me from point A to point B.....or......if everyone else was driving one....but there is no way I would drive that on a highway full of SUV's, pickups, semi's, and 18 wheelers.

I have a Kia Soul...and that is small enough when I am on the highways with all those huge trucks....this Elio would scare me to death....though I do think its cute as heck...I would drive it for all the short runs to grocery shop....but then its so small where would I put those bags of groceries......lol....

Same here. Think I might feel more comfortable on a motorcycle, so I had the speed to get out of the way.

Personally in my dream world, I want the electric Tesla.

Doesn't look much smaller than the Smart For Two car. I would not have a problem driving it in the city and I would have to try it on an interstate highway before knowing how safe I felt driving it.

In the video the CEO said it had the highest safety ratings, but since it is considered a motorcycle, I am not sure what that means. To me the vehicle is a smaller part of the safety factor when it comes to getting to ones destination without having an unpleasant experience on the way.

The top key to any street or highway safety is not the vehicle, it is the person behind the wheel. For those that think multi-tasking is ok while driving on a public street or road? That is the biggest danger factor for anyone happening to be on those same street or roads. There is nothing more important to anyone driving a motor vehicle than always driving defensively. And in my opinion, anyone that is doing something other than driving and having 100% of there focus on that task? That is where the danger lies, not in the size of the vehicle that are driving.

I would love to take this car for a spin and if they come to our city that is just what I will do. If allowed, I will even take it on one of our Interstate Highways to give it the true test. I don't feel I would be in any more danger than driving our sub-compact Toyota on these same roads.

When I was a kid, my Dad's best friend had a 1937 3-wheeled Morgan that he restored and it was his pride and joy! You had to crank start it.

I would love to try it....in an large empty parking lot at midnight. Otherwise, not a chance in normal traffic.

If you lived in The Villages in central Florida, most residents drive around in golf carts. Special under road jug handles for making left turns. Special tiny garages next to the regular attached garages on their homes. Even have a special "thruway" to the big box home store ! ! ! Just can't see driving on the interstate with the 3-wheeled car / cycle Eliot.......

It's a glorified go-kart. That windshield didn't look like it provided enough visual all around the way a full-sized windshield does.

Nor do I think the driver of an Elio is safe because of it's size - I see a bigger issue with it in a larger ""blind zone"" of larger vehicles.

Not for me - I don't drive a large vehicle but I want to see and be seen.

I think for a family trying to survive on a budget it would be a good second car alternative, just enough to get one of the parents to work every day.

BTW - smart cars have one of the best safety ratings of any car on the road.

I would use it to drive around town and into the city (I don't need to take the freeway into the city). But I don't think I would take it out on the freeways...
