I totally get what you mean by "lighter reading". I highly recommend the Virgin River Series by Robyn Carr and the Dead-End Job Mystery Series by Elaine Viets. IMHO, you should read in order, but for me, these are my go-to books when I need exactly what your OP was referring to.

Hi Ladies,

I really hate the word "flu*f", and most of it I just can't abide by. Not to sound snobby, but I need well-written stuff that perhaps is just a *tad* less heavy than what I've been reading. I need a little break from WWII sagas, cultural unrest, etc. Not that what I generally read is "high-brow" all the time, just a bit heavier. Any suggestions?

Recently I read Rainbow Rowell's Landline, which is considered a YA book, and not heavy. I really liked it. Quick, fun read, but very well written and very funny. Maybe something in line with early Jennifer Weiner--well written, but not intense?

Anyone?

TIA

Have you ever read the Mary Russell series by Laurie R. King? The prose is very well written. Another of my favorite authors is Amanda Cross. Her books are starting to seem a bit dated, but they are well-written.

I love Sophie Kinsella's books. They are especially enjoyable as audio books (the readers are superb).

I also recommend the Ann Ross Miss Julia books (should be read in order).

I have read all of both author's books and I would love to have a fresh supply to dive into. Ann B. Ross is a hoot.

Also look for Emily Griffin and Erin Hilderbrand. Another Nantucket favorite of mine is Nancy Thayer.

I have been reading a lot of YA books. Not as heavy on the gore or the s#x that is in a lot of adult fiction. The Hunger Games series, Cassandra Clare Mortal Instruments series, Becca Fitzpatrick Hush, Hush series, Ashes by Ilsa Bick, Kami Garcia, Melissa Marr, Lesley Livingston, Richelle Mead, Lisa McMann, Maggie Stiefvater...those are some that have been really good. Kelley Armstrong writes YA & adult & I like her. Patricia Briggs, Jeanine Frost & then Karen Marie Moning Fever series is a favorite or mine, my daughter's, my sister in law & my niece. Of course the Twilight series introduced YA books to me & while I know they are not great literature they were like crack when I started reading them! LOL I don't know why but I couldn't put them down until they were all read.

Adding Nora Roberts & Sandra Brown.
