My doctor says I am too young. But at 38, I am experiencing mood swings, sleep problems, night sweats, and super icky heavy "times of the month." Sparing you the details... But when did you start?

I'm 53. I haven't had any symptoms other than no periods for the last three months. They just stopped dead, no spotting, nothing. No mood swings, no sweats. I feel great. Yesterday, a checkout guy called me "Miss" rather than "Ma'am", bless him.

My doctor told me that Perimenopause can begin in one's 30's. Mine was in my 40's with full blown menopause at 50. You could get another opinion. I would if I were you.

Everyone is different. I always had heavy and irregular periods until I was in my forties. Then, they became regular to the day...and not as heavy. But, I have always had mood swings, trouble sleeping off and on. What helps mitigate these things for me is adequate rest, exercise, good diet, and avoiding stress as much as possible.

I started menopause several years before I turned fifty, but the lady that does my hair was almost done with it in her early 40s. I agree with getting a second opinion.

Perimenopause can start as young as 35, and continue for another 5 to 15 years before actual menopause sets in.

If that doctor isn't your gynecologist (specialist), please see one who is.

You need to find another doctor. Perimenopause is the when our bodies begin to transition to menopause. Every woman is different but someone women do experience perimenopause in their mid and late 30's. Some women have a very long peri period, some a short one. We're all different. The perimenopausal period ends when you've gone 12 months without a period. You then in menopause.

My md also said too young until he saw my hormone levels. I was 37, had a very rough time of it. I finished at 46. Had flushes for maybe ten years after that. I used estrogen patch ( now frowned upon) for ten years. Also vitamin e helps with flushes, 800 iu Black cohosh Evening oil of primrose Estroven tablets. Good luck, there are many reasons for early peri menopause, there are many natural aids.
