Guy's 70th birthday gift suggestions?

I'm looking for gift ideas for a family friend. His wife is having a surprise dinner at a local casual cafe that he likes. Nothing golf, movie, fishing, hunting, or gift card related. I would like something instead more of a funny gift......70 of something or something unique and funny you've seen? Ugh, my creativity is zero right now. Thanks for any ideas you might offer. I like giving a vintage magazine -- maybe Life, Time, Look, or a special interest magazine like Popular Science or Popular Mechanics from the week of the birthday person's birth. Or a vintage record album from his high school/college days.

Great ideas! I like these tshirts better than the " Old Guys Rule " shirts. Don't like those.

One of those news things that says how much things cost when he was born, was music was popular, what was going on in the world, etc.. You can do his birth year or when he was 18 or any age. People always get a kick out of that.

An Ipod nano loaded with music that he likes.

A great book about something that interests him & chocolate.

Good bottle of wine.

A gift basket filled with different homemade jams from a market.

Or a gift basket of different cheese and crackers.

Let me see! I'm a 75 year old man now what did I want/get for my 70th birthday? Since I do not have any friends or family members that are pranksters, that leaves out some things. As for the T-shirts with things on them? I have 5 drawers full of Road Race T-shirts, many of which I have yet to wear.

I got it! Nothing like cold hard cash for me that way it is up to me what would make the best use of the gift. Not inventive, but I am a practical guy. This guy's personality might be a clue as to something that might work. If he is like me it is cash and if he is not? No clear cut answer I can think of and many of my friends have had their #70 and what I gave them was "happy birthday old man, and that was it. Now they did not have a surprise party.

My wife knows me well enough to know I ain't into "surprise parties" so that leaves that out. If this guy is into those things I think maybe a "gag gift" might be ok for him.

Could tell you about an almost "surprise party" for me about a year and a half ago but I will spare you from me saying any more about myself. Guess I have to analyze myself to think what I like to be able to take a stab at questions like this one.

Hey, wish the old guy happy birthday from this old guy.

I think gag gifts are a waste of money. Unless you know the person will wear a logo-type t-shirt, I'd skip that too.

I'd give 70 dollar bills, or 70 half dollars, or 70 quarters, depending how much you want to spend.

He probably has everything in life that he needs. How about a nice donation to a cause or issue he may be involved in made in his name? Or a gift card to a favorite restaurant or such?
