I thought I had a brilliant idea, only I could think of - guess not. Anybody ever used Caruso Steamsetter Rollers?

Remember their rep with the long spiral curls?

WELL, I have had a set since then, they worked great. Then I quit using them for some reason, - think I had my hair cut shorter - just found the set in a closet and thought I would give them a try as my hair is now shoulder length.

The rollers were all dry rotted and crumbly! I looked online and they are not cheap to replace.

SO, I thought !!!!! They are just sponges - I have pink sponge rollers (we have a young granddaughter who loves to play beauty shop) - I slipped off the original sponge, cleaned the rod up and put on the pink sponge. Put the originals back together and used as normal. Worked great. I was so proud, thought I would share. Typed it in to Google to see if I was the first - guess not -

From Amazon - where they were selling replacement rollers.

I, too, have had the Caruso steam roller system since it rolled around the first time back in the early 90's, and it's been wonderful. Beautiful, soft long-lasting curls every time. I agree however, with the sponge-versus-whole roller problem, but I improvised a bit:
I bought a bunch of inexpensive, pink foam rollers and removed the plastic spines from each. Then, I disassembled my Caruso rollers and replaced the original, worn-out foams with these new foams. They worked like a charm, and although they don't last quite as long as the Caruso foams do, they do last quite a while and are cheap enough to replace as often as needed. Just thought I'd share that tip.

I had a set of those rollers but promptly cut my hair short and got rid of them. You're a smart cookie, even if you were the second one in the package

Thanks, tansy. They really do make nice shiny curls and faster than hot rollers. Healthier, too, as you are adding moisture to your hair. It was fun to mess with them again. I even still have the little tiny black salt spoon.

I have some too but mine were fine . . . used them a couple of times in recent weeks. My sister had mentioned she bought some so I dug mine back out. I'm guessing mine are 7 or so years old.

Mine are twenty years old - or older People were saying on the sites I read that they should just sell the replacement sponges, not the entire rollers. Good idea.

My hair is shiny and bouncy now, of course I am going nowhere but out to water the flowers.

Shoot -- I tossed the whole shabang when I found the foam had rotted. Oh well, I usually burned my fingers on them anyway and it gave more curl than I wanted.

I have never burned myself with the Caruso but I certainly have with the Remington hot rollers - especially the sides of my face! I just remembered something about the Caruso - it had this attachment to make it a facial steamer. Now I have to look for that!

Stop the madness.

(I did find my deviled egg carrier dish while going through this closet, tho).

Thanks OP, I still use my "original" caruso but I spend a lot of $ on roller replacements.

sidsmom, The Caruso lady was a staple on Q for a long time, usually Saturday morning beauty shows - along with Jane and Yves Rocher.

I thought it was a pain in the neck to heat each roller individual. Then the snap on tops gave you a ridge.

Hot rollers were much easier to use use and I did not end up looking like I'd stepped off the Good Ship Lollipop.
