My parents buy a gallon of 1% which is purple with the brand name that they buy. The skim milk is blue which is what I wanted so yesterday I grabbed a half gallon of the store brand in blue not even thinking about it. I opened it up this morning and something caught my eye when I was pouring the milk into my cereal. The milk I bought isn't skim milk its 1% as well. So now we have a gallon and half of 1% milk in the fridge. I really wanted the skim milk. Its a good thing my niece is staying with us for 3 days she loves milk hopefully we will go through it all. I hate that they use different colors for different percent's. I didn't even think about it.

At my grocery store, the skim milk has a purple label, or at least it used to. I quit drinking cow's milk a couple of years ago & switched to almond & rice milk. No color-coding there; I have to read the label to choose what I want

In my area there is no consistency with colors.

Each supermarket has their own color coding for the fat content. One uses pink for 2%, one uses blue and another uses green.

The only one that is the same throughout is whole milk with a red label and cap.

Had this conversation 20 plus years ago............Let's say: If one glass of milk has 2% fat, then combining equal parts of water and milk into another glass, wouldn't it be 1% fat? (per that glass). (BTW, I cannot drink 'skim' milk.....it doesn't agree with me for whatever reason. Tried all brands, etc. throughout the years. Must be something re: the processing, etc.)

I drink whole milk, mainly for making shakes/smoothies, using it in my several cups of coffee all day long, etc. I like the smoothness of whole, although I have purchased 2%? (One step lower than whole) when the supermarket was out of whole. Seems as though whole 'goes a long way', so to speak. Takes too much (lower %) milk per cup of coffee to get it to be the 'perfect' flavor (for me!).
