Re the changes in the BB regarding long standing threads

Why can't they just make a special forum for them and call it "Classic Threads" or something like that? I don't get the reason for closing them out. If they are in their own forum, I can't see that being an issue for anyone.

I have zero problem with the longstanding friendship posts and doubt that any actual posters did.

I don't see why they have to do ANYTHING with the longstanding threads. There are not that many of them on VP. Can't understand why people who aren't interested cannot just scroll on by. None of the threads interest everyone so what's the beef?

I have no problem with the longstanding threads. They're not just here in Viewpoints, btw, they're in the other forums, too. I've seen complaints about them before and can only guess that a large number of survey participants mentioned them as a problem or maybe a distraction? I've seen other chat boards/forums move threads such as those to a special sub-forum, just as they also generally move all "O/T" threads to another category, simply to try and keep each forum more organized and on-track -- that's sort of a moderation standard practice.

Re: the survey, I think they made a huge mistake by NOT making it prominent that a survey was taking place and by NOT allowing it to be active for a longer period of time. It appears to me a lot of posters didn't know about it and, thus, didn't participate.

I could be wrong but I think those threads with thousands of posts make for slower page loads even if you don't actually click on that thread.

I didn't vote against these in the survey (I did participate, and thought that controversial threads should be locked rather than selectively deleted). One of the regular posters here (I've forgotten exactly which one) alerted the Viewpoints folks to the survey.

The Pancake thread was probably the nicest thread that ever ran here--an unbelievably touching thread. But CA no longer posts on it, and I find that rather sad.

Maybe a "Long-Running Favorites" forum could ease the load-time pressure for those with slower internet connections, and regular reboots at #1 could help people revisit those threads. I haven't been on "Pancake" for at least a year because it's just too long to review. It shouldn't go away, though.

Moxie that is just not true...it is about having a good time and building friendships. Why does this have to be about competition?

Not so.

They simply BECOME longstanding threads due to posters' interest.

Hi, again, Scottie! Theoretically it could cause a problem on a website, depending upon how their software is written. But on a site like this one, the only thing that might be affected is the individual's experience on their device. I think some people notice, for example, if a thread has multiple images it takes a wee bit longer to display on their device as opposed to a thread with text only.
