I think he use to be cute 50(?) or so years ago.....Now he is creepy.

I drive past him everyday on my way home.

The sign he holds tells me about today's fire alert danger since I live behind a National Forest.

I never thought of Smokey as creepy. I thought he was cute and special, and I learned about fire prevention from him. When I was a kid, I became an official jr. forest ranger because my dad sent away for a kit that contained a little storybook, and a badge, plus a few other little things.

There was an ad a few years ago that emphasized it is Smokey Bear, not Smokey the Bear.

Agreed! What is creepy is stupid people that set forest fires that kill innocent people, destroy property, and thousands of acres of beautiful trees.

I think we saw Smokey the Bear at a zoo in Washington DC long long ago.
