Done in sepia, the front features a slender man leaning against a bookcase; the back shows a woman (her back to us) looking for a book in another old-fashioned bookcase.</P> <P>The writing is wonderful: I was completely enthralled from the word go. I was extolling the wonders of this book to a few friends. At this point, I read the inside flap of the cover. And I thought: this isn't really my kind of book.</P> <P>And then the story took a wild turn and I was just kind of enduring the images the sometimes ghastly descriptions produced.
