There Should Be a Law

Against burning stuff in your yard. Here it is a nice summer evening and all our windows are open and the idiot next door is burning something in his back yard. The smoke is filling our house and it's making my throat hurt and I feel like it's choking me. Ugh!!!

then you should live in California.......to burn anything on your property you have to get a burn permit........it's a big no no here........................................raven

We were sitting on our porch and our neighbor started burning weeds. Very smokey and very stinky. We ended up coming inside.

I went for a walk this evening over in the neighborhood just inside the town limits and people were having bon fires.

Some municipalities have such a law. You could check with your town/county to see if you do.

Here, where we live, we're able to burn. We usually burn during the day. We haven't had a nighttime bonfire in years.

I'm not in favor of burning. I've seen people burning leaves here. I assume it's allowed because they were in plain view on a main road. The builder of my subdivision put in alot of extras in the backyard of the house next door. One of the extras was an outdoor fireplace. The current neighbors use it and the smoke makes its way over here. I don't know what they burn, but I know right away whenever they use it.

We called the police and explained but it was useless. They told us there is no law and they could not help us.

We have rules/permits needed for burning as well.

Here they are set by the US Forest Service or Natural Resources.

When I was a kid (in CA), we had a backyard incinerator that we used for burning things. The law was passed to prohibit their use sometime and I'm not sure what happened to it after that.

Here in our county in PA you can only burn in the country. We live in the country BUT its a residential development of homes, so you can NOT burn here (its against the law). So in your case, I agree if you're that close living near to someone you should not be able to burn.

in fact........not only can you not burn things in your yard without a burn permit you get from the fire department.......you can NOT even have your fireplace going unless it's a burn day........and those are becoming fewer and fewer days here.............................raven

Leaf burning is popular in my neighborhood, it doesn't bother me. Those who burn charcoal in outdoor grills using is a lot worse.

I feel your pain.....nearly every summer night in my area where we have a summer home, people light camp fires in their fire pits and sit outside, which I know is fun, but it fills the air with smoke, and the trees and woods hold the smoke in , and if we want to have our windows open, it makes breathing unpleasant and fills your house with smoke smell. Some nights it's so strong it keeps me awake ): and I swear, when I walk into my house after being away, it seems to have absorbed the smoky smell which makes me sick because I'm a fanatic about my house smelling fresh.

I'm actually surprised that some cities still allow burning on a property.

It's a huge polution problem.

I am too ! So many people have allergies and respiratory issues to begin with.
