These people who have been brought to the Netherlands have not yet been identified. No one knows how many were actually citizens of the Netherlands, but they have all been afforded all the respect that the military gives to its own. I have been in tears off and on all morning watching this. This speaks volumes for that country......

I understand that the victims are not yet id'd-- it actually reinforces my idea that we are all just humans, of the same universe.

ITA, the whole world is watching and is affected by this tragedy....I hope the European countries now get their act together to help reinforce the sanctions against Russia.

*sigh* Out of respect to the victims and their surviving loved ones - can we keep politics out of this just once? All things will be sorted out but for today let's try to have a moment of silence instead of trying to top one another.

I didn't see the full coverage, only what our local news had just now.

Not wanting to sound gruesome, but the truth is ugly sometimes. Many were in the fields for days, some still are, then transferred to refrigerated train cars. Not sure where the train took them, but I guess they're still on it waiting to be flown to the Netherlands. They haven't even found everyone yet.

yes, that is what happened. The remains are now going for identification as they do not know who the bodies are. DNA sampling has been done to help with matching, family members have given information like tattoos, birthmarks, even jaw line features.

They were out in the sun for days before being transferred and they are in very bad shape. It is not going to be pretty at all.

I was listening this morning and a letter from an Australian family - who lost all 3 of their young children who were traveling with their grandfather - and about how their love was stronger than any hate. It was very moving...

I've been watching, and also moved to tears again and again. I know some don't like CNN, but I think their coverage today has been respectful and sensitive. I believe they're broadcasting internationally. The motorcade, the people lining the highways, the families of those who were on the flight, the memorial services... all are heartbreaking and sobering reminders of our connection to one another.

I agree, hennypenny. I think his emotions are close to the surface, even more so than usual, as he mentioned yesterday was the anniversary of his brother's death.

I agree that CNN's coverage today has been excellent. I watched the planes arriving and the coffins being taken off by the military earlier today. All the honor that the military shows when it's one of their own. It's a sad reminder of 9/11 - when the whole world is horrified and comes together as just human beings, with all the feeling and emotion for those who are suffering.
