Every year I have a food allergy test done because it changes. My doctor told me that its very important that anyone with food allergies that they vary food choices. If we eat the same thing over and over, we develop food allergies, especially when we get older, in the 55+ age range.

Every year I test I am consistently allergic to milk and all milk derivatives. I can tell when I consume any kind of milk product because my sinuses will stuff up, even though I drink a lot of water.

Pure water is something you might consider drinking too. Lots of it throughout the day in order to keep your sinuses hydrated.

If you eat fruit, which is good for you by the way, you should eat only a cup of it and twice a day, at least an hour before or an hour after you consume a meal and its imperative you vary your fruit choices every day. Try to stick to berries, apples, oranges, grapefruits as they are lower in sugar and the melons or bananas should only be eaten once a week as they are high in sugar.

My ENT does not know this but I am asking because maybe someone else here is going through this........I can breath fine all day long and around 4 I get a stuffy nose..........I have been tested for mold, dust mites, dust, oak, etc and I am not allergic to anything.......do you have this happen to you? if so what do you do or what does your doctor think it is? Mine has no clue. They have not tested me for food though but all I have had today is apples and hot cocoa.

I have this about every single evening during the summer months. I attribute it to sinus pressure due to cooler/moist air moving in from the ocean over the dry hot/desert air. I take advil....and wine.

I would suggest being tested for food allergies. I am allergic to corn, wheat, potatoes, tomatoes, citrus, milk, and egg whites, and suffer with gastric issues if I eat any of the offenders. However, food allergies can result in other minor symptoms such as stuffy nose, etc., and it would be worth looking into, since this seems to be a recurring problem.

It would probably be a good idea to skip the hot cocoa for a week or so and see if it helps you. (Like Nunya posted, milk may be an issue for you)

Ok, I am apologizing in advance here, lol. I know you did not ask for advice on your food choices, but you are having a lot of sugar grams with those choices. Have you thought of having more protein? When I have too much sugar (even natural sugar from fruit) it does not satisfy my hunger long-term. I am hungry a short time later. Plus too much sugar causes the sugar high which is only temporary, with the plunge before too long.

One large apple (depending on variety) is about 23 grams sugar.

Use the drop down menu at nutrition data to see the different measures of apple:

http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/fruits-and-fruit-juices/1809/2

Hope you feel better, Rainbows.

Rainbows, what we eat makes a big difference in how we feel. Even short term. I eat very simple food when I prepare breakfast or lunch for myself. Dinner for two of us is more preparation, but most dinners are pretty simple too.

I also don't know if you have any special instructions from your dr. regarding your food plan. But, if not, you could fix a very simple breakfast of a couple scrambled eggs. For lunch, in place of high sugar fruit you could switch to veggies. Either a salad with a little oil & vinegar, or even easy stir fried (or steamed) veggies. Unlimited combinations so you would not get bored. Zucchini, spinach, green pepper, sweet onion, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, just to name a few.

Feel better soon!

I'm surprised that your doc didn't suggest a straight allergy OTC such as Benadryl (I use 1/4 of a tablet of the store-brand version.) Just 1/4 of a tablet, when needed. You might call your doc and ask if it's o.k. or call your pharmacist, telling him of all of the meds you are taking. Make sure it's the straight allergy type, not the ones with all of the added cold/flu/whatever ingredients.
