That said I often want to ask people who post 'selfies' if they don't have a friend in the world who can take their pic?

we also take selfies while we're out shopping and send them for feedback on an outfit or accessory. it's like having your friends with you while you're shopping.

It is amazing of all the useful pictures that I do have on my phone. I have my golf clubs in case I forget one on the course my kitchen paint so when I go to the store I get the right kind and my favorite: my 3 year old granddaughter in her Frozen Princess dress pretending to smoke!

Can't imagine not taking selfies, not posting on Instagram, Facebook, sharing with my friends and family. Its a ton of fun everyone in my family, social circle sharing, which is what its all about! As well creating memories in an easy, organized fashion that can be relived whenever.

I *love* it when the extended family sends selfies to me on Instagram! I get one of DH's niece and her baby almost every day, always with interesting backgrounds

Am I correct in what a selfie is? It is when you take a picture of you by yourself and post it. If there are 2 people in the picture it is not a selfie.

well, is it........my friend bought me a cute jacket last winter-----it was too freezing to wear it then so I took a photo of me wearing it and texted it to her.......is that selfie?

I could do that. It had a purpose, you wanted your friend to see how much you liked the jacket. I can't post a selfie on Facebook. Too shy I guess.

It's still a selfie is there is someone else in the photo, including you, and you took it.

I don't take them because I don't have a smartphone, but I love getting them. My daughter has a smartphone and an iPad and takes photos of me and her dad, which she shares with close friends and relatives. She takes tons of photos of the kitties. One of the kitties is quite famous because of her photos... seriously. Worldwide.

Definition of "selfie" from Oxford Dictionary:

A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.

Sending pictures of one's self & texting to someone is not, by definition, a selfie.

Texting is not social media. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, MySpace....those are example of social media. A telephone is not.
