I'm always in a quandary when it comes to correcting a fellow poster. Sometimes it seems better to say nothing but then other times I feel it's wrong to allow them to make the mistake when it may matter, like on a cover letter or thank you note. So far, I've kept my corrections to myself. But, I'll never forget a coworker sending a memo using jester when she meant gesture. I said nothing that time either.

I think some posters that point out the spelling and grammatical errors of others are not doing it to be helpful at all. They just want to criticize, belittle and make fun of them. Especially if it's a poster they don't like.

I agree that good grammar is important, and spelling is important, but we all make mistakes. I think I'm good about proofreading what I've written before I post, but some things slip through the cracks. I once misspelled the word "genius" and entered it as "genious" instead. Someone who had been on my back immediately corrected me, and said I was obviously not a genius since I had spelled the word incorrectly. Since that instance, I've been very forgiving about the typos I see online.

I am the first to admit that I can be kind of lazy and sloppy when it comes to posting on forums. I do try to at least spell properly though...

I once had a boss that would hand me proposals to type up, he spelled proposal - purposal. I could not in good conscience type it that way, he rarely caught it. Once he did, yelled at me and demanded I correct it immediately. I tried in a nice way to explain to him that it was wrong, he kept screaming at me. I finally got him the dictionary, he laughed shrugged his shoulders and the day went on. The insane part was this man had been in business for years, had many secretaries...I find it hard to believe that he never learned to use the proper word.

The next day I was fired for correcting the boss smh LOL.
