I have TWO side-by-side double (bi-fold doors) closets in the downstairs bedroom. The whole area is crammed with clothes, which I am in the process of going through. There is one very long rod and that is all. I am thinking a closet organizer system would be great to install. I have looked on-line at Lowes and Home Depot. Looks like there are tons of choices. If you have an organizer system, please tell me about it. Unfortunately my DH is NOT handy, which is a concern. Maybe we could figure out how to install one, I don't know. TIA. Demitra

I used to keep my closets very organized. No more. Right now I need some ""human"" closet organizers.

Ford, I would like some humans to finish mine off, as well. I AM getting rid of some things, but since I have a full wardrobe in THREE sizes, it takes a lot of room.

Do you have a Container Store near you? Their ELFA closet systems are wonderful….and very easy to install. They'll even help you design how you ultimately want your closet laid out.

Costco . com has a 30% deal for custom closet designs going right now . . . and there is also a somewhat reasonable cedar version ready made available. IF you are a member or have access.

I purchased two systems, but darn I cannot remember which kind. I installed one in my dh's closet and one in my closet ~ by myself. My dh is not handy at all. The kind I installed had the rails that you put on the walls vertically and then attach the shelves, etc. I really like that they are versatile and you can set them up however it works best for your needs. I had no problem doing these by myself. In fact I prefer working alone on these types of projects.

My cousin turned a bedroom into a walk in closet.

She bought a system on-line. It was similar to California Closets, with shelving and drawers. She decided she could install it herself.

After a few frustrating weekends, she hired her handyman to do it and it was worth every penny, she said!

I have a large walk-in closet and 13 yrs ago, I had Calif. Closets install a custom organizer, ie, racks for clothes, shelves above the racks, and a tall cabinet with shelves for shoes (from the floor almost up to the ceiling) with a heavy-duty acrylic door (to keep dust out). The racks/shelves are on 3 sides of my closet. I also had them install shelves the full length of one wall in my garage for storage --- and large double cabinets (floor to almost ceiling) on the opposite wall of my garage. It was a bit expensive --- but so worth it. I love organization.
