The Chicken Recall Is Serious

The salmonella in question is an antibiotic-resistant strain that can make people sick for a year, according to reports.

"The U.S. Department of Food and Agriculture said it has found evidence directly linking Foster Farms boneless-skinless chicken breast to a case of Salmonella Heidelberg, an antibiotic-resistant strain of the disease that has sickened more than 500 people in the past 16 months and led to pressure from food safety advocates for federal action against the company.

As a result, Foster Farms issued a recall for 170 different chicken products that came from its Fresno facilities in March."

I went to Costco Friday before I heard about the recall and picked up the FF chicken, but when I got to the checkout, I told them to keep it because I remember returning a pkg. in March when they had the other recall, and thought, maybe this is some leftover from then. I get home and that night on the news is the recall again, which paying attention to my intuition, paid off again. On another thread, someone had an uneasy feeling about walking a trail near her home. I posted, pay attention to those feeling, and I did on this one. To me it is God talking to you, or if you don't believe in God, your intuition

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Kirkland brand chicken (frozen breasts) is from Foster Farms. I dumped all my FF. Last time in Costco I bought Tyson's frozen chicken breasts.

The problem is not limited to cooking chicken. Handling it is an issue. Contamination, especially when someone washes chicken.

That is pure hogwash and they only say that because the general public does not have the good sense to clean their kitchen counters and sink properly afterwards. People have been washing their chicken for decades without any problems IF they do so properly.

I didn't give my opinion. I only wrote what they are recommending, now. I read it recently. I have always washed my birds before cooking.

You're right, and that's from the CDC. There are videos which show the usually unseen spray, and it's not just the sink and counters.

Washing it is a hard habit to break. I keep catching myself at the sink with it before I remember...oh yeah, not supposed to do this, anymore.

Have you or anyone you cook for gotten sick because of your doing so? I don't know of anyone who has.
