I love to watch this show also. Some time back one of the twins who does furniture on the show (can't think of their name) was on a radio program. He said that because of the economy antiques and collectibles have lost a lot of value. Makes sense.

Recorded 3 of these this last week. I'm amazed at the cost value from 1999, this is a revisited show, then it shows 2014 what items are worth now. Really interesting.

Table, vases, so far. A couple of things went down. 3 pc. porcelain set of tableware.

Maybe you watch this show too. Egads some goose....this should be good. Wow.

I was fortunate to inherit a Stickley buffet for my dining room and some other pieces of antique furniture. One day I was watching Antiques Roadshow and saw my buffet's twin - they said it would bring $10,000 at auction, and the one they had was not in as good shape as mine , which is pristine. The one on TV had some damage to the wood.I also know that mine was new in 1905 as it was a wedding gift to DH's grandmother when she got married that year.

I love antiques - have many in my home - and I watch Antiques roadshow a lot.

I saw that show as well. I recently read a book by an antiques dealer. The market has really dropped...lack of demand and lack of curiosity about the history of things. People want to buy new. I can understand how people don't want big pieces of furniture. It seemed the only things that increased were some paintings and commodities (gold and silver), which makes sense. What was sad was the 18th century mahogany NY tea table... Beautiful wood and craftsmanship. Luckily I never bought stuff for investment but because I loved it.

Shops don't want to take up so much space in a shop. Just looked up Antiques/flea markets...they seems to be going strong. Maybe it's the high-end great furniture that's not selling...takes a lot of knowledge and appreciation for those pieces. Dealers are probably just selling to each other!

I looked for antiques at a local thrift store/antique store before I headed for the furniture store to buy for my new home. I do this for everything from creamers to furniture. I found several pieces, one of my favs is a large dining room cabinet to house my extra dishes. (I inherited my dining room set from my grandma...also gorgeous). My thrift store find sits in my morning room. I purchased it for $100. Solid, mahogany and gorgeous. Saw a similar, modern piece for $10,000 in a store and a similar bu inferior for $5000.

I also purchased from the same thrift store, a carved, mahogany cabinet from circa 1800s for $100 that sits in my living room next to a circa 1800 chair with the original needlework and horse hair. Both look gorgeous and I love the energy they exude.

I once had an antique dealer tell me that she loves antiques because she looks at her antique pieces and says, if they have survived all these years, so can I.

I hope my children love and appreciate my pieces like I do and my finds don't end up back at the thrift store. LOL.

I appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of my antiques and I love that they just blend together with my new modern furniture. My DH likes the connection to his ancestors as most of our antiques are from his grandparents. We had so many of their things when we first got married we had to sell some of them - apparently they had a house that was a lot larger than ours. My DH also has some antique guns his grandfather had collected. While i am in no way a gun person , you have to admire the craftsmanship that went into making them. Besides they are harmless as they no longer work to the best of my knowledge. DH has them in an unbreakable glass case in the DR sitting up on stands, and definitely locked , just in case. They say if someone breaks into a home guns are the first thing they will steal if they are easily accessible.
